NEW YORK, Sept 11, 2009 (AFP) - Actor and activist Edward Norton will run alongside a group of Maasai warriors to raise awareness of conservation issues in this year's New York marathon, a statement said Friday.
Norton, the Oscar-nominated star of "Fight Club", "The Incredible Hulk" and "American History X", is running to help the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, who he has had a long association with.
"We came up with the idea of raising funds by fielding a team of runners because the Maasai are born runners, runners as a matter of culture and heritage," Norton said in a statement.
"I've never run a marathon before and the difficulty of it is both intimidating and motivating, especially when it's for a cause like this."
Norton and three Maasai warriors will be part of a group of around 30 people taking part in the November 1 race.
The actor's participation was confirmed as the organization announced a web-based fundraising effort,
, to bring together corporate sponsors and grassroots donors.
