Didn't Carl Lewis run the 800 at the 1986 superstars competitions? I have not found it on video but here is the 100 yrd which he could not enter.

that's just weird.
Back in the early 1980s I was a sportswriter in NJ. One year, two significant records fell at the state high school Meet of Champions: the HH and the LJ. They were previously held by Carl Lewis and Renaldo Nehemiah. The surprising thing is that Lewis had the HH record and Skeets had the LJ. (I don't recall who broke the records. Anyone remember?)

Btw, unless you are a decathlete, almost no one competes in more than 2 individual events and absolutely nobody competes in more than 3 individual events.
Obviously this is true in general, but I would argue there are probably some individuals capable of being world class in 4 individual events. For example, I could see somebody being able to compete at the elite level in a combo such as:
110HH, LJ, 100, 200
or
LJ, TJ, 100, 200
There is probably somebody out there capable of running sub 10, sub 20, over 8 meters, and over 17 meters for the latter set, or similar marks with the first set. I could imagine a person like this who couldn't compete at the same level as a decathlete because of lack of talent in events like the throws, pole vault.
