shook his hand. he is a runt, just really cut (crawford)
If you put that event; max baseball hit in the Olympics in 10 years the record would not be held by a pro baseball player - very skilful but not athletic enough
Some sprinter (a fast runner) who was a bit slow would take it up and hit it much further. Probably 430m or so
World champs at US only sport - that used to be our game!
I am a post-collegiate semi-pro runner now and I would put money down I can still hit an 80 mph fastball at least a solid 400 feet if not the 430 you ask. I ran and played baseball for years and I have hit several around that distance and two that were for sure longer than that. As a reference, I can easily run under 15 in the 5k right now as well.

Are we talking Aluminum or wooden bat?
If we're talking wooden bats I would equate an 18:00 5K with about a 230ft hit. Aluminum, 280.

Sound like something a loser like you tells the chicks.
Longest home run ever was supposedly Reggie Jackson's 650 ft as it hit the Tiger Stadium lights at 400ft and was still going up! Longest verifiable is 575ft by Babe Ruth.
18:00 is 69% of 12:37. 69% of 650 is about 450 ft.
69% of 575 is 396ft.
If any runners could come with 100ft of either of those distances they'd be playing baseball.
Alan
Paul McMullen certainly could. Flagpole will tell you he could.

No chance in hell. There might be one or two professional sprinters who could hit a baseball 430 feet at the moment if they played baseball a lot in their past.
This is a flawed argument. Every professional distance runner could run a 5k under 18:00. Not every professional baseball player could hit a baseball 430 feet.

Not if they didn't have the hand to eye coordination, that where the skill element comes in.
Like the stats though - good work
What about going around turns at over 200MPH in traffic at Talledegha?
Can any pro runner do that?
They Can't?
Pathetic.

430 feet? Nah. I don't think that even with everything as perfect as possible that I could hit a baseball that far. In fact I'll say there's no way I could.
most soccer players, some basketball players, a few foot ball players

Yes. I believe it about Carol. I even asked her when I saw at the urinal next to me last week.
It's extremely unlikely any professional runner could even make contact with a major league pitch.
I think that Ritz just knocked one out of the park...

Great point...in order to reach those distances the ball has to be coming in fast. You won't ding a 60mph ball 430ft. You can thank Newton's Laws
