Who out there has taken part in the 5th Avenue Mile? Going to run it this year. What are/were your thoughts on it? Slower than a track? Hard to judge pacing? Seems like it'll just be a fun day all around... thanks in advance

I've done it. It's faster than the track - for the typical athlete here, probably by four seconds or so.
I ran in back in the days when it was from 82nd to 62nd. They later moved it from 80 to 60th to get closer to the Plaza Hotel when Donald Trump was actually the sponsor of the race (one of his lesser known exploits). When it was 82nd to 62nd, I think you could start a buildup (not an all out sprint) from the crest of the only hill on the course all the way to the finish, but since the finish is now at 60th, I wouldn't recommend that. But adjust accordingly. It's a lot of fun, it's easy, it goes by quickly.
