A friend wanted me to ask about these:
I am thinking they are just a gimmick, or else elites would be seen training in them, but I told him I would ask. Anyone?

If you want to switch to the whole, barefoot/natural thing you pretty much need to get these unless you live next to twenty mile stretches of grasslands.
If you believe in the hyper-minimalist stuff, then these are the things to buy. I think it is a bunch of trumped up garbage myself, but whatever.
The only people I see wearing them look like they just came out of a 60's commune..
You know there is a search function, right? There are dozens of threads about this.
My brother has a pair and he likes them more than he's ever liked another pair of shoes. He said it takes some getting used to how it feels, but once he did he loved them. He's going to buy a second pair when he finds the type he wants.
These things are so gross looking. I've never seen people train in them. I've only seen a few strange people wear them for everyday type stuff.
I have a couple of pair, I like them but I really enjoy barefoot running more. The real use of Vibrams for me is days (snowy) or surfaces (gravel) that running barefoot is not feasible. A lot of people use them to transition to barefoot running, but I don’t like them much for that use, your feet need to adjust to running barefoot, and if you run completely barefoot the bottom of your feet will keep your mileage down to a level the support systems in your feet can handle. I do not believe complete barefoot running or Vibrams are good for everyone though, but I do believe some barefoot running could be healthy for most runners. By the way I have a management position otherwise I would look like I belong in a 60’s commune.
$75 for that? What a rip.
A hot girl (late 20s, maybe 30) passed me on the downhill wearing a pair of these at the Cranmore Hill Climb (2009 Mountain Running Championships).
I have the VFF Classic. I also have PF. I would not wear these if you are injured or feel an injury coming on. They may be good for injury prevention in that they would allow your feet to become stronger and more flexible than standard running shoes. However, while injured, I would stick to more supportive running shoes with a good orthotic. Its like you wouldnt run on a broken leg. You would walk on crutches, in a cast until the broken leg heals. Then, you can start to walk normally, without crutches. Others claim that VFF has helped them recover from injuries. Personally, I havent found that to be the case. My injury has worsened as I tried to adapt to the VFF.
