are they good to train in, never even considered it because in high school my coach said bad things, but one of my team mates told me they aren't bad, should i try a pair?

I love them. I eased into them after a layoff from training (laziness and coaching high school got in the way) and have had no issues since.
Find what works for you. I might not run in them all the time once my mileage gets back up there, but I'll wear flats.
But, find what works for you. Those could be trainers, the Frees, or something in between. It's for you to decide.
I agree with rat pack, do what works for you. The free worked well for me, and I especially like them for walking around.
What is it about the free that intrigues you?
Many have been able to run a ton of miles in them, while several others
have gotten hurt in the shoe.
Good luck.
