The Brooks Ghost and Defyance are very good shoes - check them out.
Plus if you are looking for something lighter, check out the new Brooks Launch that comes out July 1. Great lightweight trainer.
get the asics gel nimbus
The Glide is the same shoe as the cushion. Adidas wanted to create an identity to each shoe. The Supernova cushion is now the supernova glide. the supernova control is now the supernova sequence. the Adistar cushion is now the Adistar ride. and the Adistar control is now the Adistar Salvation.
Best thing for you to do is not ask the advice of a bunch of random posters who the majority know next to nothing about shoes and just run in something because if feels nice and cushy under their foot. What you should do is go to your local specialty shop and get fit. Chances are statistically speaking you overpronate to some extent and are going to need stability. And if you indeed are a neutral runner regardless not everyshoe is made for your foot. Each brand fits a bit differently and it would be the wisest choice to go have some professionals with some experience look at your foot and tell you what is best then try a few pairs on and decide from there. This is coming from someone who has worked for many years at a running specialty store and seen countless customers like you who think they can just run in any shoe that feels good and eventually they always come in and complain about some pain in their hips, knees, back, feet or otherwise. They go on about how they have these nice efficient stride with some nice high arches when the truth is their out of shape they overpronate to no ends and they have collapesed arches. So please do yourself a favor and go and get fit and save yourself the inevidable trouble of having to get injured because your in some shoe that is completly wrong for your foot and the only reason you bought it is because someone on letsrun told you it would be best for you.
Quit your spreading of propaganda. I want to support the local running stores as much as the next guy but what you say is total BS. The help in even the best stores are not going to make a difference. And in fact the advice from random posters is better because it will give you sense of what the real world performance of the shoes are like from similar runners.
I've always liked the Adidas Supernova Cushion and the Asics Gel Cumulus. I alternate between the two or just buy the cheapest I can find. You can find the older models of these shoes(2008 as opposed to 2009) for around $60. You might have to try different web sites to find them right now. I got a pair of '08 Supernova Cushions for $56 plus shipping from FootLocker.com about a month ago. I couldn't find anything comparable from roadrunnersports.com or any other of the many web sites for those two shoes, but I'm sure searching around you'll find something for a good price.
Since you've been out of the game for awhile, going to your local store might be good so you can try the shoes on. After you buy a pair you like from the store, go online and buy it cheaper.
