I just ran a 4 mile tempo run in 24:07 today, which was 66 seconds faster than last week. The weird thing is, I had a hard time getting my HR up today. When I hit the first mile in 6:05, my HR was only 166, and I had to really push just to get it up to 172 during my final mile in 5:50.
Anyways, last week my HR went up to 170 pretty fast, and it peaked at 178 with a 5:58 last mile. I ran both tempos on the same trail. For reference, I am a 19 year old male, and when not in shape, I have seen my HR reach 205.
I read on another thread about Lance Armstrong stating that increasing the pace and not seeing an increase in heart rate indicates fatigue. Could this be the case with me? It just seems like I should be able to get my heart rate up higher since I'm young, but I was really pushing it out there today.
Thanks for any help.
