Probably my worst marathon ever. I knew I didn't have it right from the start, and the feeling was growing in me for days before as my taper never felt right.
Still, I started out at goal pace to see how long I could hold it and briefly at miles 4 and 5 thought I'd somehow make it. However, I could tell by the level of effort I needed to make it just to 10 miles I was in deep trouble and that the day would be long.
By 15 I was seriously hurting. Even trying to relax on the downhill at 25k, my legs were in agony. I was still on goal pace by 30k, but by the 3rd heartbreak hill at 19 it became too much and I was done. Ran/walked it in.
My lesson was, that as a master (47) it is especially important to err on the side of caution in your training. Somewhere I fell off the cliff of fitness and into the abyss of overtraining. I definitely did something stupid weeks and weeks ago, I'll have to go back and try to find it.
