name one warwick runner who has blown up after college? they all burn out
name one warwick runner who has blown up after college? they all burn out
I lived in Warwick for a decade, and during my time there,
I was able to speak with a lot of their athletes and coaches. Warwick has good, solid coaching. They aren't doing anything that a lot of good programs across the country aren't doing.
There are too many variables to account for regarding any athlete's post high school performance improvement to make your assertion that Warwick "pounds" its athletes.
You sound very bitter. Chillax, dude. Sorry you didn't become an All-American, but it's not Warwick's fault.
You sound a bit young, but here's a Warwick alum for you that did some good running after high school:
Howard Nippert
He said nip . . .
He had athletes in the marathon trials too...
I ran against Warwick all the time in the mid 1990's and beat all of them except for Eddie Carmack at the time. It is pretty common knowledge that Warwick pounded its athletes year after year. They usually ran well at the pre-state meet invitational and at VCP but we're completely burned by the time states made it around.
I couldnt understand how Warwick could get a national ranking, especially in 1995 & 1996. When our teams raced at the same meets we would usually beat them when we compared our results in dual meet scoring like 25-32 b/c we would put four ahead of their second guy.
I guess they didn't pound Eddie . . .
Maybe I'm dumb or something, but I really don't understand why people are using Aislinn as an example of how Warwick "pounds" its runners. She thrived in high school, right? didn't seem like she got burned out by the time of states.
So it seems to me that either:
a) Aislinn is pretty good at dealing with a "pounding" training plan (probably not, given her college injuries)
or b) Warwick doesn't "pound" its runners to the extent everyone thinks it does, if poor fragile Aislinn with the bad biomechanics did so well there.
just my 2 cents.
Acutally Warwick won the NYS X-C Championship in 1995 by quite a bit and was also the top team at Manhattan Invite in 1995 as they won the watches. I dont recall them losing that year at all. They finished US # 16 that year and it was pretty well deserving. What team were you from that beat them? I dont think it happened.
mike mark has been progressing at columbia, i know he just ran 1:50.5 to take 4th at heps, pretty sure he's gone faster since hes been in college too....and that's just one kid i happened to remember went to warwick when perusing results just before reading this thread...could probably come up with a lot more if i actually looked...

Exactly. Why is Warwick getting so much blame, when she didn't get hurt until she went to Colorado
another runner that is hurt from Warwick and now goes to Stanford is Tori Pennings. I believe it is a stress fracture in her back. She is a freshman there and hasn't raced yet.
Dave Baxter ran 3:49.xx while at JMU in beating Ed Moran and winning the conference 1500 one year. Just one example. Regardless of how many kids you find with or without improvement from Warwick post high school the fact that Ryan has repeatedly gotten hurt AT Colorado is the point of the thread...
also you are talking about 2 injured girls who got hurt in college and not at warwick. and when talking about warwick as a program, keep in mind that the boys and girls programs there are separate and coached by different people.
When Aislinn Ryan won Footlocker, our whole called a school assembly where they showed the whole race.
wtf are you trying to say
I coached a Warwick kid in college once. It wasn't the easiest job, but eventually he cut 11 seconds or so off his mile time. Our program averages about a 15 second improvement for our runners.
Terence Prial from warwick I believe ran a 14:38 a few weeks back. I'd say that is an improvement.. I also believe Greenlaw from Warwick has had some success in college running 30:30 for 10,000 meters and aiding to Cortland's NCAA title run the last three years.
Aislinn has quit the CU cross country team this year '09 for personal reasons. I hope she returns for her senior year

Was she the one with the really frightening mechanics?
No. You must be thinking of Paula Radcliff
Well, I hope it works out for her. Life has a lot of twists and turns. There is running after college, too.
I hope she can get healthy and enjoy running again.
