I'd have to disagree about metro. I would say they're in the top 5. They did lose one of their top runners but gained a two time national champion and about 5 all-americans. Mines will be about 10th, they just don't have the depth. Western could possibly lose to both because they lost a lot as well. Adams will always dominate, but it will be difficult with ACU and all their talent. They may have lost white, but they always have heavy hitters. GV, and Queens are way overrated and who knows about chico? Good luck to all the teams though. It will be a fun year to watch.
You sir are sorely misinformed.
GV is going to be the suprise team at nationals, I'm picking them as third behind Adams and Western. Unless you know something that I don't looking at last years national results it looks like only Mania and Tanui are returning from last years ACU national team, with a healthy Sang back in the mix that only brings them to 3 runners, if ACU didn't pull in two more good recruits and/or transfers they will not qualify for nationals.
ACU signed another international (non-African) and a couple of U.S. kids. For ACU not to qualify out of the South Central region, they would have to have 3 guys DNF.I think ACU will be a top 4 team. Most likely 4th.

What are the recruits names, where are they from, and what kind of times do they run? I looked on dyestat under the college commiment section and it says no recruits have been signed on the distance side of things at ACU.
Usual suspects, with some Anchorage on the side: http://d2cross.blogspot.com/
No way Alaska will be in # 12. I bet they have a short in the top 3. 5 Kenyans in the rooster.
Okay this post will get toasted, but I don't care. Who are the top teams in DII that only have Americans on the roster or the schools that do the most with the least amount of scholarship aid.
I would start by nominating Colorado School of Mines since they are consistently in the top 10.
Art Siemers (sp?) runs a solid program. I'm not sure as to how well they're funded or if they are fully funded.
Adams is fully funded. I have a buddy running at Western. According to him Western has more financial constraints. Again, I don't know exactly to what extent. Anyone able to varify/ shed more light on the situation?
Mines is FAR from fully funded for xc. Same with UCCS in the RMAC.
Both of their men's teams ran at xc nationals last year and both of their entire team's rosters were made up of guys whose total scholarship value combined was less then equal to one in-state scholarship. No blue chips, superstars, or foreigners at those schools. So it can be done.
As for the RMAC, yes Adams is fully-funded, Metro St and NM Highlands are funded well for xc as is Western St, but their track team took a recent hit.
Obviously the men's teams nationally with a lot of foreigners are funded well-ACU, Harding, Adams St, Alaska Anchorage, etc. GVSU is fully-funded, but not with foreigners. Queens? There are over 240 men's teams in DII xc, but it's pretty easy to figure out who has funding.

Coach Siemers deserves all the respect in the world. He's doing a fantastic job at a very selective institution and it's great seeing Mines have so much success. But before you start making implications about foreigners and money, I hope you realize that even when Adams was not "fully funded" and with American-only rosters, they were still at or near the top and it's been that way for 40 years under Vigil and now Martin. Yes, foreigners played a key role in last year's win, but in 2003 it was 7 runners all from the U.S.
I realize you didn't specically call out Adams and I'm not trying to get into a pissing match, but the implications are obvious even if it was a general statement about all programs with more money and foreigners. In the end, give credit where credit is due. Martin built an absolutely dominant women's program from the ground up and by the time he took over the men's team the program was in shambles. It's not money, it's not foreigners, the guy is simply an outstanding coach.
Best of luck to all of the Colorado teams this fall.
Well..... in 2009 it will be about $$, it will be about foreigners (4 returners plus 1 new frenchy coming in) for Adams.
The times are a changin'
The post was about NCAA II men's cross country, not "Adams State". Why does it have to become an "Adams State" thread? The comment was about Colorado School of Mines.
The facts were simply being stated. However, is it not true that Adams State is fully-funded and that their men's team is currently heavy with foreigners? What part of that statement is controversial? There's nothing about that statement that is an opinion, it's all public record.
And what do the Adams State coaches or the women's program that you referred to have to do with the original statement?
Chico has only partial funding.. 1.5 scholarships for their XC program.. Never had a foreign athlete on their XC roster that i've seen.
The top 3 teams that never have foreign talent on the rosters are Chico, GVSU and Mines.
Does anyone know how much money they have to give to the foreigners to get them to come to a DII school?

Lots of crying
Chico has NEVER had a foreigner on their team at all. Period. Yet consistently in the Top 5.
The same is true for GVSU as for Chico. No imports yet but I hear that may change this year. Not sure though.
Grand Valley has Simon Nyang joining the team this year. He is one of the lost boys of Sudan, but spent the majority of his life in grand rapids. He is transfering back home from Auburn. He may make the top 7.
