louie is not leaving so stop the rumors all ready...
Louie is not leaving so stop the rumors all ready...
One of Gags relatives is seriously ill. Tyson might take the Stanford gig. The AD wants a high school coach to continue the Stanford domination.
Pascal Dolbert?
Lots of turnover down on The Farm over the years.
Andy Gerard, Dena Evans, Robert Weir, John Rembao, and now Tegen. - - - Sounds to me like no one gets along very well with Edrick Floreal. He sure sounds like a tough guy to work for!
Is he leaving to run a 10k?
Edrick is the definition hard work. The dude works 80 hours a week like a Silicon Valley computer geek and lives to work. He's the 1st one on the track in the morning and the one who turns out the lights at night.
ok rumors we'll see if louie is there next fall.
Tegan retired. That's not bad, but the rest sorta looks bad. We still look forward to seeing Hassay. Maybe Cici HoTT can take the distance job and be with her daughter.
Maybe they'll lure Alford-Sullivan away from Penn State to come back to Stanford? Everyone loved her when she was there previously. She kicked butt as an Olympic coach. She might be one of the best distance coaches out there.
Disclaimer: The previous statement was said with tongue planted formly in cheek and (no part) is meant to be taken seriously as it is all crap.
Stanford will have no problem continuing the tradition of leadership in the NCAA. With Hassay coming all the little boys will still flock to run at Stanford.
Arthur Lydiard?
Lydiard is with Jesus.
Nobby would be an awesome choice for Stanford. He\'s still here on earth and not with Tennoheika and the Gods in heaven yet.

I have not read a single opinion on this thread that sounds knowledgeable. I am very interested in this, being a former Stanford distance runner, and have two thoughts:
Why is he retiring? He waited all this time to get out to the West Coast.... Something must not be good out there... Perhaps something related to why Lannana left?
Second thought: They either have someone set up to replace him (which is what I think), or the field is wide open, in which case I hope they handle it well. I wasn't impressed with how they dealt with hiring an assistant cross country coach last year. More than one very well-credentialed coach applied -- and the effing athletic department never even acknolwedged receipt of application....
Asics America wants to raze Cobb & Angel and build an IAAF regulation stadium with 40,000 permanent seats, tearing out the Track House, build a 10,000 car parking structure across Galvez St., and host the next available IAAF World Championships there. But AEG wants to share the risk and instead build it in Carson. I think L.A. should get it myself, but who knows what will happen.
you heard it here first...... Stanford is haunted.
Lanana, Tegan and Gerard all heard it clearly while locking up the track at night...... Get Out! They didn't have to think twice.
Having Known Tegen in Madison, although only slightly, I am not real surprised. He has been coaching forever and is not at all young. He did a good job handling the talent and he will probably leave some new talent in the stable so it is a good time for him in that regard. My impression is that he was not real enthusiastic about recruiting and had relied on his long string of successes to do his recruiting for him, and why a bunch of recruits were convinced to go elsewhere than where it would be best for them I do not know. Clearly one of the all-time womens track& field/XC collegiate coaches of all time (and I will not bother with a broader comparison with males as it is hard to compare since he really helped develop the womans sport so how so you compare?).Bottom line, I am not sure that I would read in much negative to this. Especially on the womens side where top runners are smart and do not have quite the post-college running possibilities, Stanford has really got a great reputation and great school to complement the program. For runners that fit the mold (top runners, bright, self-motivated, interested in lots of things but also dedicated), it really should be the starting point in all college choices.

And don't forget to mention Stanford has the best distance program in NCAA history.
