I'm doing two consecutive race days next weekend. In training, I've been trying to emulate two hard days in a row, but I want to do everything I can to maximize my chances for good back-to-back performances.
After the first race, I plan to do a little extra cooling down, replenish quickly with protein (hamburgers at the post-race feed and some yogurt), 600 mg of ibuprofen and mild stretching. When I get home, I plan on an ice bath.
How long is appropriate? I believe its in the range of 15 to 20 minutes, but since EVERYTHING below the waist is going into the cold dip, I want to make sure I'm in long enough for the benefits but not so long that I risk serious shrinkage.
