Wow. Huge news.
A dude I know just signed with Arkansas. Sucks for him (unless, of course, the new guy is better, but that seems relatively unlikely).
When you look at his resume it's simply staggering. He's arguably the best NCAA Division I coach ever, in any sport. John Wooden comes to mind but he didn't win half as many National championships as Coach McDonnell.
Word I heard from those in the know is that they had contacted Schmacher several weeks ago about his interest. Dick Booth just wants to coach his people.
well done... wrote:

Wooden didn't get 3 shots per year at a National championship though.
Finally! He was good for the program for all those years but the program has gone downhill and needs new blood. I dont even think he traveled with the team the past couple years. I bet they try to bring in an alumni guy so that they can stay "true" to the old program. I think they will be fine.

While the program is certainly not what it was in the late-80s and early 90s, people tend to forget that the Hogs won the indoor NCAA meet just two years ago and were SEC indoor champs this year.

For someone purporting to know about the program, I'd think you'd be able to call out what they're going to do with much more certainty than "an alumni guy"...
As in, his name is Danny Green, he's been at Arkansas for 11 years.
Wanna bet Redwine is waiting by his phone for a call
Don't forget Floreal.
I hear Tom Aspel has the inside track.
Interestingly enough, they had a very good meet yesterday. All the 1500 guys ran well(#4 guy(Chinchar) nearly ate it on the final turn and just missed qualifying, the rest ran 3:44). Freshman Bilbrew went under 1:50 for the first time, and one of the McClarys went under as well. Samuels ran an extremely nice triple. The jumpers did well, and Forrest had a nice solo run.
He should get the USATF CEO job. Isn't he a naturalized U.S. citizen ?

Doubt CoachMcD could handle the white wine and canapes from room service mentality of the backroom gang.
CoachMcD strikes me as a beer and ball realist.
Bob Knight!
Coach McDonnell can probably handle any situation that comes up. I heard he will be on next season's Dancing With the Stars - special sports edition - Pacman Jones - football, Dirk Novitski - basketball, Roger Clemons - baseball, Johne McDonnell - track, Cristi Kerr - golf, Serena Williams - tennis, Karch Kiraly - volleyball and they always have someone older and John said what they hay let's do it. That's why he's retiring now - ballroom classes start June 30.
