I ran 9:14 just before I graduated. It was well after I signed my letter and had no substantial times from Jr. Year because of injury. I ran just over 9:20 indoors at the armory and that was the only thing I had to sell.

My grades werent THAT bad, they werent good, but they were not in danger of flunking out of high school. I didnt have much speed either, that is probably a deterrant for schools. I ran 1:59 just before that 9:14.

9:15 3200's do not get you full rides 8-9/10. If you are getting a full ride, you must be going to a program that is fairly weak and sees you with a lot of upside. If i ran 1:55, things probably would have been much different.

Im sure Quigley is on a full ride now.

Please tell me you are joking? 1506 is no better then his 2 mile time. In fact it's debatably worse.

Quigs was not average in HS. But he was far from the cream of the crop. He's come a long way and the fact that he won a national champ (against who?) is moot.

You are sure that depth will soon surpass the levels of 30 years ago, that's great.

It should be faster just based on the improvemants in track surfaces and more big meets on these fast tracks.

How many people run 9:00's in the US any given year? I'm thinking MUCH FEWER than the amount of scholarships that are offered to distance runners. I'm callings BS on this.

Malmo ran a 9:10 2 mile if I recall in the state meet and then got a scholarship to Penn State; in a situation similar to yours. btw...how did you do in college? let me guess: 5k- 14:04...and a solid X-C guys, placing in the top 3 guys of your team?

Far from times or what he did high school..... this kid is the definition of hard work and dedication. This kid has shown people with hard work and the right mind set you can do anything.

I ran a 9:22 in HS (probably had 9:15 potential) and got almost a full ride to a $47k school. It really depends on your situation. If you ran good times early in your HS career, you will get noticed a lot more (I had run 9:52 as a freshman) so 9:15 should get you some pretty good offers.

Don't know why this got dug up again but according to the milesplit network only 16 guys broke 9:00 in the 3200 this year, 44 broke 9:10, and 9:15.04 was was 80th on the list. It's possible that a few guys are missing on that list but it has to be pretty close.

9:15 obviously isn't an average time but it's average for a major D-1 runner (at least the big confrences). It makes you a big recruit for the mid-level conferences (like the A-10) and a huge recruit for the smaller conferences (say the Big South or something).
