I'll add it's maddening trying to get the attention of iPod-wearing runners to share helpful/necessary info at races. No, it's more than that- it's very annoying and I don't like to get annoyed at races.
Bear in mind the ban on portable music devices is only for USATF & RRCA sanctioned races. Those races not sanctioned by either organization far outnumber those that are so there's the genuine possibility for confusion- some allow, some don't...who does what & when?
I'm guessing the whole thing will blow over by conclusion of the next USATF convention in Dec when the ban will be repealed and/or significantly modified.
