I don't think Demi Moore actually became a Seal but she did shave her head- wait didn't Spears shave also? Don't think it was for the Seals though.

Except that those other countries don't have governments with imperialistic, belligerent foreign policies that recklessly place the lives of military personnel in harm's way, so it makes more sense and therefore the people and their elected representatives support mandatory service. Join AmeriCorps or Peace Corps if you want to serve and make a real and positive difference to the US and the world. If you join the Navy SEALS you'll just be signing up to commit terror and murder and become a part of the problem, not a part of the solution.
can't be that hard if women are in it. the police, fire, army, navy, etc. need to fill slots and have owmen. that's not elite. you guys are fools for believing the bull. didn't the b.s. about the seals start with hollywood homo tom sellek on the magnum p.i. tv show ?
There are no women seals, but there have been cases where gals
have undertaken part of the training. Some MAY tell you they have know women "seals". It's a bit of a grey area, but there aren't any IN THEORY.
There's hundred of female SLs, GBs, and PJs in the N/AF/AR. They have to take them because they are just as good as the men. The toughtest !
23 is o.k. for the military. During the olden days of the Vietnam War draft, if you were 21 and over, you were lucky and went automatically to the Army. 21 year olds would wash out of the Marines too often and end up being sent to the the Navy or Army anyways. Selective Service just started sending them straight to the Army to get as much of the two years out of the draftees.
Get your head outta your ass.
There are NO women in the SEALs. Hundred. Give me a break!
What's the problem. Unless you have women it's not legitimate anymore. There are women firefighters, soldiers, ship captains, figher pilots. Don't deny the thousands of women who have been SEALs. Recognize them as the bestest !
Hamburger Mary's in the Hillcrest is the UN-official U.S. Navy SEALs bar. You are welcome to come over to meet with SEALs and converse, and, well, do whatever God wants you to do with them ;-)

I know the physical attributes are grueling and demanding... but honestly, I've been through some hellish workouts in xc and track and doubt that they could be much superior to those ... ex. 5 mile run followed by 20x400 at 63-66 with 90 sec. rest followed by 10 mile run at 6'10 pace ...
not the most difficult i know, but still pretty damn tough in my mind. ...
I'm not saying you can't do it, but if you think a tough track workout is good preparation for SEAL training than you are in for an almighty shock.
lol yea.
If women were even allowed to try out, I wonder how many women could do a "competitive" SEAL workout.
I doubt even few males here could.
first off ur goin in for the wrong reasons u will drop out most likely. besides that theres been mabye 4 good responses lets run will draw tons of people who have no idea what the SEALS are like. You would be better off talking to someone in or have been in the SEALS or posting on a military forum.
Try to make the USATF T&F team. Beijing is definitely too soon. Try for the 2010 team. The military takes losers who need to wear a uniform to be a big man. Don't waste your time with trailer park trash, ghetto crackheads, stoners, and methed bikers. If you are 23 you should have grown up by now and have the confidence to be your own man. You don't need somebody to tell you who you are. Your'e not 17 anymore, so act like it. Try out for the USATF team. T&F is a wonderful community, there are many coaches all over that will help you.
The women SEALs made it. SO stop with the weenie bull. Have respect for all soldiers. The women SEALs fought for us as and a little dick like you feels threatened by them. What have you done for out country ? I can guess, you watched the 'Green Berets' DVD a dozen times. That's all.
The Seal workout is too weak for even a HS team. You won't make any good times wasting away on mediocre military drills and such, resembling a Hollywood stunt mans workout video I once saw. You really need to see a coach.
1. talk to your recruiter, get a seal recruiter
2. start upper body training, without it you will not succeed
3. put on muscle mass, you can expect to drop serious weight in training and also need to withstand cold
4. there are pre-enlistment private conditioning programs that give you a better idea of what you need to do, and improve your chances for qualifying for the training (yes you need ot qualify) and for success rate at the training
5. understand that you are enlisting in the armed forces, it is NOT a TRYOUT for the seals, if you do not become a seal YOU WILL SERVE OUT YOUR MILITARY COMMITTMENT. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?
6. good luck to you in your pursuit
p.s. one of the seal training requirements is to complete a 50 meter underwater swim from a jump in start with a flip, swim 25 meters to end of pool and back (push off allowed) all underwater. Try to do 25 meters underwater. Before you do tell the lifeguard to watch you to avoid shallow water blackout and death.
I hope you really want to do this and I hope you were kidding about being able to say you were part of the most elite group in the world. Like others have stated, most SeALs or other Special Op members don't even tell other people what they do for work, just like most fast runners don't tell most people how fast they are or that they even runners. Being a SeAL has to be something you really want to do and you have to be able to put up with just about anything. I did not like being treated like shit when I went through Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, GA. I am pretty sure that trying to become a SeAL is at least 100 times worse and probably more like 1,000 times worse. Don't believe those TV shows that try to show you what it's like to go through "Hell Week." Based on my Army experience, I am going to bet that they are verbally abused about 20,000 times more than is shown on TV. Like others have said, you will be stressed every way you can possibly think of, so you'd better be prepared to put up with more shit than you can imagine and stay motivated.
By the way, it doesn't matter if you are a thin runner or a big decathlete, you need to be tough. SeALs and other Spec Ops come in many different sizes.
I also don't think it's a good idea to become a SeAL or even joining the military to serve your country because, unfortunately, there are more people in the U.S. that are ungrateful for your service than there are people who are grateful. More Americans bitch more about the cost of fuel or who should have won "American Idol" than they do about Americans dying in terrorists attacks, dying in Iraq and Afghanistan, and dying in drunk driving accidents combined. In my opinion, you should join the military for the same reasons you would want any other job, such as, it's something you are interested in, it pays the bills, it may set you up for a better job in the future, etc.
As far as mandatory military service goes, I agree with you that it helps build patriotism and nationalism, but I don't know if it would be the right thing for the U.S. to do, since we are supposed to be a "free country." I know it would make people a lot more grateful for the jobs that they like to complain about now. Most people who have been in the military know how much shit they had to put up with when they were there, so most other jobs are less stressful and make your personal, family, and social life a whole lot easier. People would also be much more respectful of others if everybody "served." Anybody who has ever lived on a military installation knows what I am talking about.
Good luck and I hope you make the right decision.
It's better to live than to die. SF guys in the Navy get a chance to live. The HMC[FMF] guys voluneteer to walk into bullets to pull out Marines. Be an SF guy, and live til you are old and gray.
