Nuguse no doubt have the talent to compete for the win in any 1500m, Mile, or 3000m but he doesn't put himself in the best position on a regular basis. He needs to believe that he DESERVES to win and be more aggressive and smarter tactically.
Man up Nuguse and gain Josh, Jake, and Jacob respect as a real threat to them and not just as the really fast American

Totally agree. Last year at Pre you could tell he had the confidence to just go with Jakob and it paid off, running 3:43 and just behind him. He needs to rediscover that confidence and fire today

Can you identify a championship race where you think that happened? I checked last year’s WC, and this year’s World Indoors, and both times he was right where he needed to be with 400m to go.
”He doesn’t believe he can win”. Even renowned, minder reader Kara Goucher wouldn’t dare make that claim.
LR is supposed to be a site for distance running fans and you should raise the level of your game. Your post seems to imply that with 400m to go, Nuguse is distracted by thoughts of ripping out molars.

It's the classic Letsrun amateur fallacy that if someone doesn't win, they just need to try harder, focus more or "stay with the leaders"....
With all the PEDs in sport it’s a fair question to ask if dentistry is a more respectful occupation over competitive running.
How could you post something so ridiculous? You have more respect for a possibly overweight person that acquired a college degree and spent four years at a dental school over distance runners train extremely hard for years and years?
I you want talk about dentists you shouldn’t be posting in this thread.

Get a clue negative Nelly
I got more experience as a track athlete than you have common sense. He has almost always been with the leaders with 400m to go but he readily admits himself he has yet to attack or try to kick first. He has been allowing his chief competition to kick first and he trys to react and yet to overcome the deficit, maybe he should be more confident and for once try to kick first in the last lap.

Nuguse can say anything he wants, but at the critical time, it’s likely that his instincts told him that the extra second for positioning, would cost him two seconds at the end. At a championship level, many runners in perfect position with 200m to go, are passed by other runners. Runners like Hocker can win without being in good position. In Munich, Dave Wottle, who probably had below average top-end speed for an 800m runner, was in 6th place with 200m to go.

Believe it or not, I respect some “possibly overweight people” more than some distance runners.

I just checked and you didn’t comment on this thread until you saw “possibly overweight people”. Please, please post in some other thread.
I could be wrong but it appears Nuguse doesn't have the killer instinct to attack first which he NEEDS TO TRY because he have shown he clearly SO FAR hasn't developed a lethal kick to win an International Championship. He has decent endurance and he is young enough to try training to be able to copy Hicham's long drive home tactic
He’s hilarious with a self deprecating humor. At the pre Q and A, they asked Jakob, Kerr, and Yared if they knew each other. No one said anything until Yared speaks up and says “vaguely familiar “
He’s not a bravado guy, but I think he still wants to win.
