How can anybody take this view on life?? Extermination of any person or race is wrong. Murder happens all the time but the general idea that it is ok to wipe out an entire race is so stupid. This guy is insane in my opinion.

No, racism is only wrong when it's directed at "people of color." It's perfectly acceptable to discriminate against white people.
Mr T. once beat Chuck Norris in a game of tic tac toe. In retaliation Chuck Norris invented racism.
If you think white Americans are racist, try going to NorthEast Asia. Every race would be gone except them if it wasn't for the nuclear bomb.
Privilege is just so hard isn't it?

If that isn't enough for you, here are some articles. That professor may have been wrong, but let's be honest and take a reality check on the facts that may have motivated his harmful words.

What do you think the chances are that these fine examples of Afriacn-American youth will get charged with a hate crime?
Now think if the guy who got stomped was black and the kids were white. Hmmmm

Racism and discrimination are not the same thing.
Racism - n (Merriam-Webster)
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination
Discrimination - n (Merriam-Webster)
1 a: the act of discriminating b: the process by which two stimuli differing in some aspect are responded to differently
2: the quality or power of finely distinguishing
3 a: the act, practice, or an instance of discriminating categorically rather than individually b: prejudiced or prejudicial outlook, action, or treatment
Reverse Discrimination - n (Merriam-Webster)
: discrimination against whites or males (as in employment or education)
Prejudice - n (Merriam-Webster)
1: injury or damage resulting from some judgment or action of another in disregard of one's rights; especially : detriment to one's legal rights or claims
2 a (1): preconceived judgment or opinion (2): an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge b: an instance of such judgment or opinion c: an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics
The second definition of racism, highlighting discrimination, is important, but the much more precise definition is the first: "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race."
We have a well-entrenched societal belief that many groups of people--black, Hispanic, Asian, etc.--act a certain way because of their race. This is pervasive and it is dangerous. It is entirely irrelevant if any one person dismisses these stereotyped beliefs as false and ridiculous. Our leaders have written policy around them; our artists have made millions of dollars fashioning movies and television shows around them.
Generally, most Americans are NOT racist. Most white Americans are not racist. And, for the record, most American men are not sexist. That does not mean that none of the aforementioned groups do not benefit from racist beliefs in society, perhaps entirely unknowingly, allowing them to be unintentionally complicit in the strengthening of societal racism simply by living their lives.
Sometimes white people face discrimination. Sometimes it is in the form of a job. Sometimes it is in the form of college. But--abjectly economically disadvantaged whites excluded briefly--are these white Americans discriminated against in how school districts are zoned? At what rates they are pulled over by the police for driving suspiciously?
Let me borrow a bit from Peggy McIntosh:
Examples of unseen white privilege:
"I can swear, or dress in second hand clothes, or not answer letters, without having people attribute these choices to the bad morals, the poverty or the illiteracy of my race....
I can speak in public to a powerful male group without putting my race on trial....
I can do well in a challenging situation without being called a credit to my race....
I can choose to ignore developments in minority writing and minority activist programs, or disparage them, or learn from them, but in any case, I can find ways to be more or less protected from negative consequences of any of these choices....
I can take a job with an affirmative action employer without having my co-workers on the job suspect that I got it because of my race."
Racism is tied to power. People of color can systematically, indisciminately, hate white people, and it still isn't racism. It is not just the hatred or the prejudice that makes racism ugly--there are ineffectual bigots everywhere--it is the power weilded against a group of more marginalized individuals who are lumped together as a less-than-worthy class of humans.
It is wrong when a black man hates a white man for no reason other than his skin color. It is wrong when a white man hates a black man for no reason other than his skin color. But if it were only about hate our lives would be easier. Societal racism--what cannot go both ways--is when hate and distrust implicitly and explicitly guide public policy and societal values. By societal values I mean white societal values, the ones that carry the most power and influence in America.
Are all Americans racist? No. We have come a long way. But we continue to struggle with a class conflict (that now includes disadvantaged white individuals, too) that is pervasive and debilitating and generally racist. I have benefited from it. If you're white, you probably have too.
It's actually not acceptable at all to discriminate against white people. But how often do you really see that happening? I'll take it as an ugly necessary reality in college admissions. By that point it's one only somewhat successful attempt to undo scores of previous discriminations against folks who aren't white.

Those are certainly important links. The story of the ethnic cleansing of black Americans from the Midwest, in particular, between 1875 and 1930 isn't nearly as widely known as it should be. James Lowen (or Loewen)'s book SUNDOWN TOWNS is an eye-opener and covers pretty much the same material as the new book you link. Every American should read it. What it makes clear, among other things, is that the standard white rejoinder to black protest of any kind, "Hey, slavery ended 150 years ago, get over it!," misses the really bad stuff that was loaded onto "free" black Americans for decades after that.
All that being said: the former professor who owns the Raleigh bookstore and says "Exterminate white people!" is a moral idiot. He's not only been driven mad by the glorious, horrific mess that is America--rather than exercising wit, intelligence, and cool--but he's making the multiply-positioned error in taking as an article of faith the idea that "white people" is a knowable category.
This old chestnut, which we inherited from so-called "racial science" of the 1850s, has been exploded in so many directions that I don't even know where to begin. For example: precisely because life under Jim Crow was so oppressive, many very light-skinned African Americans passed into "white" society, intermarried, and had kids. "White people" may LOOK white--or pale, or pink--but their racial makeup is something else. Too, the fact that we call a "black" person who is extremely lightskinned "black" is a function of the racist "one-drop rule"; there's no racial basis for calling them black. We could just as well call them white.
Obviously I'm concerned, as every American should be, about persistent inequalities of opportunity, about inherited privilege, so-called "structural racism" (which helps explain why the CEOs of the Fortune 500 are still overwhelmingly white and male). Attitudinal racism is far, far less prevalent these days than it was fifty years ago; I teach at Ole Miss and what I'm saying is simply a fact. My white Mississippi-born students are shocked when we read about Melba Beals and the Little Rock Nine being abused relentlessly--hit, kicked, punched, set on fire, burnt in effigy, and of course called "n*****" hundreds of times daily for a year. That is very far from their experience, and entirely out of whack with how they've been brought up--although some do indeed have grandparents who use that sort of language.
"Exterminate all white people!" is sad, ignorant, and racist. It's a capitulation to the bad stuff, rather than a spiritually-grounded form of resistance to the bad stuff. Somebody needs to give that guy a hug.
I've got a cute, energetic little son--half-black, half-white, some would say, since my wife and I are a mixed couple--and I've got a personal stake in all this. "Exterminate all white people," in my case, would mean adding to the legions of fatherless children. I believe in family values, not retributive justice inflicted by violent men hungry for drama.
I should add that letsrun, sadly, is a place where attitudinal racism is often in evidence. I keep hoping for better.
Seriously people.....I am more worried about the Chinese taking over America soon. They're hording a ton of US money and they aren't going to sell it until they can totally destroy the value. It's time Americans rise up and defeat the Chinese/North Eastern Asian culture before it totally defeats us. their culture is f*ck*ed up.
Don't buy sh*t from China. If you really want to see how racist a culture can be, just keep acting stupid and sooner or later you're gonna wish you (racist Americans towards eachother) weren't playing the fool.
Wake up. America is f*ck*ng up. It's tiem for us to put this petty bullsh*t aside and worry about things that really matter. Like jobs, family, education, love.
just reading this bullsh*t makes me realize how ignorant our country is becoming. Slipping right through our hands. We are getting b*tch-slapped like nobody's business overseas and most don't realize it or care. WTF?!?!?!
Good post.
What is also so predictable and sad is that FoxNews goes out of its way to find stories like this and then joyfully blasts them all over their airways.(and of course certain letsrunners go out of their way finding the story and posting it here to enlighten us all on how whites have to deal with so much racism) I am of course not saying they should not report on it, but you can bet your last dollar they spend an inordinate amount of time looking for such stories and reporting on them compared to the number of instances that are actually out there.
On the other hand, one can find 100's of skinheads or white supremists in this country that have websites that talk about the need for exterminating blacks, but they don't touch those stories or interview those folks, do they? Nope, their audience would feel uncomfortable hearing those stories (though some in the audience might quietly agree with the white supremists' views). No, so instead they just bend over backwards searching day and night for stories about a black person who wants all whites killed, or something to that effect, and then when they do find one, they jump all over it, express their incredible moral outrage at the racism of it all. Yet if a story about racism against blacks does somehow make it on to their show, you can bet your last dollar they will be defending that racism to some extent (defending the cops, defending the business that maybe illegally fired someone, defending the free speech of that person, etc).
Hannity, O'Reilly, Brit Hume and the rest of those jokers at Fox, what a f***ing group of losers.
What I see going on America is a lot of illusion. The first sin of course is identifying ourselves by the color of our skin and not as children of God. The African people in this country were, and still are in some cases, treated like subhumans by people who identified themselves as white. Due to this systematic pounding of their spirit, they were forced to identify themselves as "black" and to form small communities throughout the country. In these communities, which are all very different from each other when you compare different regions, wonderful cultural things have emerged such as new music, dance, language, literature, and foods. Many African Americans have created fulfilling, spiritual, and financially stable lives for themselves.
Yet, the media focuses on the problems and shortcoming of a small percentage of African Americans: black on black crime, infidelity and abandonment of family by the African male, drugs, "baby mommas", gangs, etc. They help foster the belief that the African American is still separate from the nation, going no where, lazy, not caring, not smart, and dangerous. The answer is not to have a "black leader", as there is really no one all-encompassing African-American community. As an example, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton appear to be leaders of something, but there is nothing to lead, and there so-called leadership is questionable as they seem to be focused on fostering and capitalizing on racism and not on developing positive changes. The answer is for me and you as individuals to wake up and help your neighbor by focusing on what is good in them, by seeing them as children of God endowed with the power to create a meaningful life. Whether the person have dark brown skin or light peach skin, we must empower them all we can, point out that it us up to each individual to live right. Up to each individual to make the best of what is given to them, and to honor God and themselves by making each day the expression of the highest ideals. This will make not only the United States strong, but the world. It is up to me. What is in my heart? Am I giving it my all? Am I honoring my God-given talents? Am I sharing love and respect in every moment to EVERYONE that I meet? Am I doing everything to make my life worthwhile?
I once had a hangup about a theater company in town put together by African Americans. I was opposed to them calling it a "Black" theater company. Going the trite route in my brain of "what if I started a WHITE theater company?". WHen I searched my heart, I realized I was being a racist. I know go to this theater company on a regular basis to see what they are expressing and creating. They welcome me with open arms. Again, African Americans have been forced to create and identify things as "black: because of lack of opportunity and oppression by "white" people. I have no problem with them using the term. They have put something wonderful together. Expressed their god-given talents to act, write, dance, sing, and to run a successful business venture that gives back to the community.
It was my heart that needed cleansing. My mind. I thank God for the insights I have had, and hopefully I can go deeper and erase all illusion.
Jee, don't you think that's because a white racist is nothing new? Maybe they are trying to show America(white Americans mainly?) that other kinds of races can be racist too.
No one is complaing and whining that whites are getting discriminated against like crazy. Just that," hey! racism isn't solely a white person thing like I'm led to believe in school and society."
I could just see it, FOX News doing a report on the KKK...umm ok? BORING!
It isn't worth discussing whether the former professor's views are vile and in fact evil - they are - and reasonable people of all races and creeds would instantly concur.
But I don't see the value in what Hannity does, either. He hauls another wacko - from the New Black Panther Party - a group dedicated to hate - to engage in a meaningless conversation because it was clear well before the interview started that Mr. New Black Panther was not capable of having one. It turns his show into a circus.
A better show would reflect what hate does not to just the group being hated, but the haters themselves. And their is plenty of historical data to demonstrate it only leads to their demise.
