Either Richmond or somewhere near Hampstead Heath. I've lived near both, starting in Highbury which is a 15 min run to Hampstead Heath and later in St Margarets which is just over the river from Richmond Park. Of the two I'd choose Richmond (direct train to Waterloo) as you have Wimbledon Common (and Thames Hare & Hounds club) and Richmond Park to explore.

Don't live in Highbury. There's nowhere good to run and it's full of gobby kids

yob - goes together with gobby, mouthy, fasty, pissed up and get into fights etc, chav, wears sports kit (pref nylon and shiny) but does little sport apart from watching football and swearing on the sofa with their mum and half naked brother....

Good luck.... come and join Hercules Wimbledon AC! We love Americans! Wimbledon Common on our doorstep (7.5 mile loop) then Richmond park (another 7.5 mile loop). you know it makes sense!

yob = troublemaker, petty criminal, usually teens/early 20s

gobby = as above but with particular emphasis on the fact that they are 'mouthy' with it - will happily boast about their activities and do not hide what they get up to

dosh = money

Highbury is also full of mentalists and window-lickers.

If you have a big johnson remember to pick up plenty of magnums before you go over. Last time I visited London, could not get rubbers that fit. they dont even have trojans- just durex and some brand i dont rmember. I went to more than 15 quicky marts and nobody had any, one woman gave me a planned parenthood brochure. Finally I found one that had some somewhat larger sized, but still not legit.

I'm not sure we Brits are aware of 'johnson' as a body part rather than a surname - nor indeed of the, erm, consumer choice issue you describe.

So do you recommend Clapham Junction area above Croydon. I know it's a bit pricier, but would it be worth it?

What are the prices like? In other words, if you convert them to dollars (something like pound = $2.10) are they cheaper or more expensive than in the U.S.?

It's all relative kid.

If your income and assets are USD and you have no help from your employer in London things will seem grossly expensive.

Most companies tend to help out the ex-pats one way or another though.

Starbucks latte is the same price as the US except the price is in pounds, so your latte is actually 2x more expensive than here in the former British colony called America. I did like their pastry selection - much better than here.

As long as you are being paid in pounds you will be fine. If it is in USD better be frugal.
