Also better than ABQ is Alamogordo/Cloudcroft. Sleep and do longer/easier stuff at 9000' in Cloudcroft, go down to 4300' (20 minute drive) for faster stuff (and work) in Alamogordo. Lots of dirt national forest roads and trails under tall pines around Cloudcroft. White Sands provides soft dune running for strength (a la Elliot & Cerutty). Alamogordo has a small airport or it's 90 minutes driving from Alamogordo down to El Paso and its larger airport. Mild southern NM winters, cooler than ABQ in the summer owing to being at 9000'. A little out of the way, but about the perfect spot to train in the continental US about any time of the year.
Laramie in December v Albuquerque in December?
throwing Salida, CO into the mix as well.
No jobs except Wal-Mart and river rat during the summer, but if you have never been a rafting guide, then you are stuck with Wal-Mart or Dairy Queen.
