Excellent analysis... my thoughts exactly. I think El G and Morceli are pretty much unarguably 1-2, because of their total dominance, the competitiveness of their era(s), and the incredible strength of their records. Third place is kind of a toss-up - Coe or Ryun would probably be the best choice, though. Although it's true Ryun wasn't as dominant, I think a lot of that had to do with the extraordinary circumstances of his career (the pressure, crazy training, etc.). Of course there are always contingencies for any athlete, but I think Ryun's talent alone, and the manner in which he ran such races as the 3:51 show he belongs at the top. I mean, he closed a 1500 in sub 50 for God's sake. I'm don't think Morceli even did that.
