Neither do a lot of runners.
it's funny how "playing instruments" is seen as such a glorious thing to do. actually it's not. it's just a mechanical task. everybody can do it with training.
and these "instruments" are like hundreds of years old. why will somebody devote his life to learning to play some obsolete prehistoric instrument? we have much more advanced technology today for making music.

nice.

hahaha! hilarious
actually, the answer to the OP's question is pretty simple. somewhere out there (believe it or not), there are a lot of people who like listening to rap and buy their albums and go to their concerts. i think that pretty much sums it up

that's why taking running too seriously is just stupid. :)

8.5 out of 10 on the trollameter
now that I think about it, there's also a very big difference between running and playing some instrument. the instrument was designed by some guy and legs are designed by god.

so making music is like running(you are using something god gave you), but playing an instrument is not.
Hey, quit replying to myself!
WHY ARE RAPPERS RICH AND FAMOUS?!? THEY DON'T EVEN PLAY INSTRUMENTS!!!
For the same reason Walt Whitman and Lonfellow are.

Did anyone actually watch the vidoe the OP posted?
The discussion doesn't seem relevant to it... it's a guy playing a piano.
perhaps it is meant to be ironic.

Okay. I thought I posted earlier in reply to myself, but my server's been weird so I guess it didn't show up. The title of this thread IS meant to be ironic. The thing is, I thought it was actually Kanye playing the piano in the video, because I've seen him play a little bit in other places. I don't know how I didn't gather initially that it was another guy doing kind of a tribute. But at any rate, I just shook up a hornet's nest for no reason. I think anyone, including myself, who is starting a non-running thread needs to meet a higher standard. My bad.
Now, is Bernard Lagat a "real" American? Discuss...

Well, he certainly f&(*# up the knees.
Musings on the importance of instrumental virtousity aside....hip hop artists are famous because the average person is impressed by sheer mediocrity. This was never more clear to me than it was last night when I watched a few minutes of the music awards on television. Daughtry, Underwood, T-Pain??? These are the musicians that are receiving accolades and awards?
Even Lenny Kravitz seems to have gotten duller over time. And yet, the producers thought it would be a good idea for him to perform a completely forgettable piano ballad. Kravitz was certainly never considered a genius, but at least he cranked up that guitar and hammered out some memorable riffs (Are You Gonna Go My Way?) in years past.
And yes, I know I'm a sniveling wannabe hipster. save your breath (er, um...fingers).

but sheer brilliance is usually boring and/or nerdy. brilliant people are useful, but they are not fun or interesting.
