I can't beleive they didn't give an at-large bid in the south region. UT Tyler deserved one.
Yeah they got screwed on that one...one point and no trip to nats. They deserve to be there, no system is perfect.
No they didn't really- south didn't deserve 3 teams. There are other teams that were ranked higher that deserved to go more than Tyler that didn't get bids.
Tyler ran like crap yesterday. Why waste a spot on them?
well, you know there are probably some people who say mount union deserves to go to nationals as well (they were ranked 23rd or so). But if great lakes got 5 teams out, you know everyone would be at arms.
GL did not deserve five teams. Look at the criteria for the at-large bids and you will see why the Midwest, Central, Atlantic, and New England had five teams out. Everyone assumes the GL is a good region just because of Calvin. Who did Anderson beat this year outside of the GL region? No one worthwhile. I would have cut Anderson and Heidelberg before eliminating any of the #5 teams from the field.
What about Wartburg? Not ranked, didn't beat any teams ranked in the top 25. then Mount Union, ranked 24th... Why the heck did Wartburg go instead of mount? Sure Anderson beat them, but Anderson came out of nowhere to run a GREAT race.
Go look at who Wartburg beat at Lacrosse and how close they were to teams ahead of them. Wartburg stomped Rhodes by 120 points and Rhodes was somehow an auto qualifying team, Luther beat them by 10 points at the conference meet, at the region meet they were closer to 3rd (who was st. johns, regardless of how they ran) and they were ranked in the top 20-25 all year. Check your stats before you start spouting off useless remarks. Trinity sucks as does the whole South/Southeast region. They got what they deserved.
Not Trinity, I meant Tyler
tyler's spread was 1:45 from 1 to 5. yes they were a point off but the reason they were so close was they had two guys who were 1, 2. those guys are going to nationals so really tyler did not get that screwed.
Rankings are not considered in the selection process so it does not matter if Wartburg was unranked and Mount Union was. The criteria used for selection refers to 1-5 spread, last 25% of the season (especially conference and regionals), and overall head-to-head to name a few.
17 (out of 32) schools have both mens and womens teams qualify. Interesting. This was rarely the case in my day. A much welcome improvement.
