Take a look at the regional results as a starting point, then check out the kinesiology programs at the schools that look promising. I graduated in the 80's so I am not too current on most programs, but I am an exercise physiologist. I did my grad work at Kentucky.
Louisville has become a regional powerhouse, overtaking my alma mater Eastern Ky for state bragging rights. EKU won the OVC and finished 8th in regionals; same coach as I had over 20 years ago. Kentucky is not bad, and from what you have said Lexington might be your kind of town. Of course check out the Carolinas, Tenn, GA, etc for similar situations.
It all depends on what you are looking for; regional 'mid-major' type schools would afford you an opportunity with your talent to contest for conference championships and a bit less pressure (say in comparison to Arkansas type program). Going D2 D3 should not be ruled out if the academics are there and tuition affordable.
a few thoughts. my 1st semester at school was terrible. i hated my roommate. i hated the people in the rooms near mine. i felt depressed and lonely for a few months. in fact it took more than a semester for me to finally start finding some people i liked hanging out with. i gave some thought to leaving in november as well.
give it some more time. keep in mind academics is the main reason for school, so whatever you do that should be the 1st priority.
keep an open mind and try to relax. join a club. find some non-running guys to hang out with. volunteer with some project.
good luck.
