You tend to be able to achieve that with low body fat but it is nevertheless impressive.
Whoa... I wanna be like that when I grow up.
More importantly, what shoe is he wearing?
Yeah, shocking.
The shoe is obviously the Hyperspeed 2.
Any lean person will look like that in an action shot, it's not that impressive
God some of you on this site are suck f#cking a##holes.
'Any lean person will look like that in an action shot, it's not that impressive'
I am about 4% bodyfat...pretty much as lean as you can get and my legs look NOTHING like that. Jesus, I hope you are joking.
What, are you also a leg-shaver?

You have to be increadibly lean for each indiviual calf muscle to be clearly visible. Any lean person would not, in fact, look like that in an action shot.
anyone know if hall uses weights in his training?
No, but what does that have to do w/ anything?
Yeah, he lifts his body weight times millions of footsteps.
Start shaving your legs like Hall and maybe you'll see a difference.
Just in case you want that pic as a desktop background to keep you motivated and get you out the door, but are frustrated by the "block" they have on saving the image, here's the link:

His lower leg defnition remind me of only two other runners that I have seen before.
1)Jim Fixx on the cover of his book.
2)Seb Coe in a time lapse photo sequence book during his 4X800m WR anchor leg. He was holding a baton and wearing the same yellow singlet as he did in the video so I assume it is during that record.
a) Those weren't Jim Fixx's legs on the cover of his book.
b) Another defined-leg shot for Ryan:

Yes he does. He also does plyos. While I don't personally know his exact weight training regimen, I have been coached by his strength coach.
Some explosive lifts (power cleans), power lifts (squats), and a lot of other weird lifts too. Plyos involve some box jumping, bounding, jumping in place (there was actually a brief action shot of hall doing some of this on one of the chasing glory videos).
Pretty basic stuff that I wish I understood a little better.
Those weren't Fixx's legs on the cover? I thought I read on the back flap that he had ran the equivalent of around the globe yada yada yada and used his own legs for thge cover.
a few more...

Hell, I could be wrong. It happens a lot. But I had been led to believe, years ago, that they were someone else's legs.
I remember discussing the cover photo with Fixx. Here's what I recall: Cover was a done deal when it reached marketing dept. Like most idiot marketing depts, they freaked out. Thought the
cover shot was too muscular and masculine for women, who make up the majority of book buyers. So they commissioned a bunch of "softer" covers, the usual stuff, smiling faces on nonrunning models, etc. These were so horrible, everyone was forced to agree, that they went with the original cover even though filled with fear that it would bomb. Needless to say, it didn't.
