Once again, some genious discussion on letsrun.to answer things, then you can go back to your critiquing."how come steve doesnt have his breathing issues in workouts, as this is much more of an anerobic stimulus than a 10k ever will be."It has before, however in practice I generally can just stop the workout before I get to the point I do in a race. and knock on wood, no breathing problems for a bit now since I think everythings under control. Also, how "anaerobic" it is, doesn't really matter. It's not linked to being anaerobic or anything like that.
This workout will not prime anyone for NCAA Regionals, and I have two top 15 finishes.
We can agree to disagree. I realize why Colorado used it, and I know why I use it. I do little so called "anaerobic" training during CC, so it's my last anaerobic workout but without the big volume.
Peaking is a tricky thing. Vigil has his runners run a 1mile all out the monday before their big 10k race. What does a 1mi race have to do with 10k? Why would you do this on monday before a sat. race? Well it obviously has worked for him, so who cares. Similarly, I've used the 2x8 or a similar workout to peak on numerous occasions. As has been stated, I used it in HS before big miles, used it b4 my XC pr at footlocker, and I've used it in coaching other kids to PR's. So it's worked during my experiences.
It's impossible to denounce a workout based on only seeing that one workout. You have to see it in the big picture of things. That's why it is kind of stupid to bash one workout, without knowing the overall progression of the training during the season.
the form issue:
I've worked on my form. I continue to work on my form. It's not perfect, but it's not bad either. I trust my coach knows what he's doing as opposed to an internet lurker. If you want to post what you think is wrong based on a video where all you see is front shots and one side shot from a distance, go for it. I'll gladly discuss it with ya.
lastly, I don't care what this workout translates to for anyone for a mile. As has been said before, it depends on the person and the overall direction of the training. Workouts are NOT predictors. That's why you can have some guy run 10x400 in 59 w/ 2min rest and break 4, while another guy could run 10x400 in 58 w/ 1min rest, and run 4:05.
I was just having some fun with my new camera I got for my b-day. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Simple as that.
have a good day.
