You'd think with all his little suck buddies he could have at least hired someone, anyone to film more running less gay music. If the poor guy would get rid of the socks, unless his idol is PR he might get out of his 4 year slump.
Why would you do this during cross country season (assuming this is recent)? I could also see this being a video from last spring but I don't understand why he would wait until now to post it if that were the case.
It's not that strange to do it now.
Fans of Colorado might remember the workout from Running with the Buffaloes. They did it 6 days out from nationals when Goucher won and they got 3rd as a team. I'm sure that's where Magness got it from.
It's a low volume but high intensity anaerobic workout. A bit of sharpening.
nice workout.
I think he has been doing this workout for years. He mentions that this is the fastest he has ever done it, even faster than the week before he ran 4:01 (at Pre in high school). I kinda feel bad for the guy that he is still relating his efforts now to what he did over four years ago.
great workout! i really liked the song. oh and im sure everyone on here could do this workout easily knowing that it was probably 85 degrees plus 15 mile per hour winds. good luck steve, your in great shape, so time to shut all these people up about the past.
what did goucher do it in in the running buffaloes?
makes you realize how much better the world class kenyans and ethiopians are. congrats on completing a non-continuous 1600 at daniel komens 3000m pace
Magness is a cool guy and all, but why is he working out by himself and without his team for regionals?
Also, what kind of workout is 2 x 800m in preparation for a 10k? Is he planning on running at or near 4:00 pace for the 10k?
That kid thinks he knows a lot about running, but seeing as he hasnt done anything in 5 years, he should probably start listening to a coach.
i think everyone isn't realizing that this workout is a tapering workout. he's doing this workout for confidence more then for fitness. obviously he is pretty excited if he did this workout better then the workout before his best race of his life. good luck steve. i'm sure you'll have a great one at regionals.
and the reason why he is working out alone is because he is in a different level then the rest of the houston team. not to mention that their coach is galactically retarted having the team come to race at el paso two days before the race when the race is at altitude and everyone else is smart and shows up the night before.

and I get called an asshole.
to be honest, steve doesn't seem 'all there' he needs some guidance, for example, fix your ugly ass form, its horrible it slows you down considerably, also get a training partner.
helps. and get cut- upper body, flex exercises, squats etc- no definition=slow
having a training partner helps push you to do all of these things. even El G needed an army of rabbits to train.
It's really not a weird workout for any race distance of 1500m to 10000m. It's not like he's in early or mid season. Whoever mentioned RWTB is correct in that they did this workout (though their rest was 2:00 I believe) about a week out from nationals.
I'm glad the guy is still running and can at least run a workout faster than he ever has. He gets criticized a lot on here for training on his own, but people should give the guy a break. He does indeed know a lot about running and whether the decisions he's made are right or wrong, they were his decisions. It's his life. It seems like whenever someone has a problem or does something a little strange there's 50 people to tell them how they should have done it, when really, they don't know shit cause. You can't really say what you'd have done because you weren't in that situation and what's right for you might not be right for someone else.
Good job Steve. I hope your xc season ends well and good luck this winter and spring.

If you've followed his running at all, you'd know he works on his form with probably the best form guy around, so that's a nonissue.
The training partner I can see. It's tough to do it alone. Most guys thrive in a group environment. But there's always your Cullpeppers or your Elva Dryers who work out solo and do fine.

Maybe he wants to lead the first 1/2 mile of the race?
uh,
if thats working on his form...
this must be him not working on it:

oh the drama:
crap, I'll just call him snaggle tooth already.
you guys ever know someone nick-named snaggle tooth?
so what did the colorado guys do this in?
I hope he just gets his 4 minute mile out of the way. I have a feeling he is really interested in running against himself and the clock. Maybe he will be one of the few individuals to break 4 with nobody around except the camera. That would be a cool youtube stunt. The first 4 minute mile run just for the YouTube camera! He does look to be in shape.
After he breaks 4 a friend could put the stop watch into the camera and yell "sub 4!" (3:59.99).
Can you imagine going down to the local high school track and running a 4 minute mile? Imagine the exhilaration after the run and the strange lonely feeling that nobody witnessed it.
It doesn't really matter who he's been working on form with, it's still an issue because his form still sucks. Also, he's not improving. He's been doing the same training program for years and it's getting him nowhere. Worse yet, he thinks it's the only way to train. He needs to scrap his program and try something completely different.
