I am coming to the end of my junior year of cross country. In recent years I have held about 80 mpw through the season, then started a drop in mileage about 3 weeks out from my last race to around 55 miles the week of the big race. I have found that running as low as 55 to 60 miles leaves me feeling sluggish and heavy. I have had my best races this year when cutting back to only 70 miles from 80. My coach is somewhat adamant about me getting down to 60 or lower, and is hesitant when I tell him that I would like to saty at 70. My question is, is it stupid to think that running 60 miles or less in the pst is what has left me feeling so sluggish and led to a poor performance? Have any of you guys seen similar results from cutting back so much and did staying a bit higher work for you or not? I am not sure if it matters but though I have been doing 80 to 85 miles a week all season (except when I dropped to 70 for 2 big mid season meets this season) I was doing 90 to 97 miles during my base. Any advice is appericated.
