Since Marion Jones had to return her Medals...There definitely should be a huge push to have The East German Cheat...Cheirpenski to return his and Give the Gold to Frank Shorter....and the Bronze to Don Kardong.
Let's Run needs to get behind this and not let it go until this wrong is made right.

There is a legendary - and accurate - story about one East German female sprinter writing a letter in which she complains that even though she's getting steroids, she is not getting as many as one of her teammates. Both of them were gold medalists. Neither is giving their medals back ...and that's more irrefutable documentation than exists about Marion Jones.

Marita (Koch) was already on record with complaints about her drug protocol. In 1981, she wrote to the STASI to complain because she believed that her main East German rival, Barbel Wockel, was getting more and better drugs because Barbel's uncle was the president of JEV Jenapharm, the company that manufactured East Germany's steroids!

Isn't there an 8 year window in which cheater's medals can be revoked? I thought after 8 years they were set for good.
He gets to keep them both. There is no hard evidence that Cierpinski was taking anything.

Why do the Americans not care about Cierpinski's Moscow Gold? Sure you guys weren't there, but how about supporting other countries that got shortchanged by cheaters?
Incidentally he was a guy that seemed to be a bit outside their system. It was his idea to switch to the Marathon. They must not have monitored him that closely if he got in shape to do a marathon and then ran one while on vacation in another country.
I emailed the IAAF asking if they were going to do anything about the East German's that were documented to have cheated. If take away medals from seven years ago they can take medals away from 31 years ago. If they don't they have no business taking anyone's medal without a positive drug test.

I don't know if Cierpinski took advantage of the extensive
doping program East Germany administered in that time period.
The fact that Cierpinski is in good health at the age of 60
means almost nothing. Two long time US powerlifters have
acknowledged using steroids continuosly for 30 plus years.
One is 70, and squatted 800 plus, in a contest while over
the age of 60 and the other has benched over 500 and squatted
over 800 in several contests in his 50's.
Some people suffer obvius health problems from steroid use.
Some do not.
The only thing that may have been running through Pre's veins other than blood would have been alcohol. :)
How about gagging Frank Shorter with a gold medal?
They caught Lance Armstrong yet he gets to keep his medals and money too.
It is well documented that for a twenty year period East Germany had an extensive doping program for thousands upon thousands of top athletes in a variety of sports, yet somehow they let this one get away, and then amazingly he goes on, out of the blue, to win two Olympic Gold Medals. As regards the top East German athletes, proof is not needed that they doped; proof is needed that they didn't!
