After a shaky indie debut, five nearly flawless albums in a row. An absolutely killer live show, and they are constantly touring. Plus, they have not broken into the mainstream/Top 40/MTV crapshower, so extra cred points.

I don't really consider Built To Spill to be of this era. I'd say they hit their peak around "Perfect From Now On," which is over a decade ago now (though "Keep It Like a Secret" is obviously very strong). After that--eh. They were one of THE indie bands of the late '90s, but they just don't seem that relevant now.
"stab" is a great song.
I wrote a song, it was slow and long
i wrote the words and the music wrong
but life goes on
and on and on and on and on
then it just goes into a weird jimi hendrix national anthem type guitar solo
"strange" is good too
are you talking seriously?
because seriously that's retarded
First of all, I like the Normal Years. Although that only came to be after I had spent a lot of time enjoying with their other records. They aren't the greatest rock band of the era, but they are probably top 10. And, yes, their live show is great! Very engaging!
Saw the show last night...danced like crazy and loved the live performance
