I agree Daniels doesnt really talk about them but R paced are the closest equivalent. He doesnt discuss them too much because really hard 400's (53 sec) arent and shouldnt be a very significant part of 1500-Marathon training which is what Running Formula covers. Racing also does what anaerobic training is trying to accompish which is build up lactate. They are important for 800 meter and 400 meter running without a doubt. My favorite anaerobic workout is 300,400,300,200 at 98 percent. The point is to build up as much lactate as possible so that your body is more adept and processing it and using this energy system. Take a lot of rest 5 minutes or more between reps but run them ALMOST like a race. You need very few of these sessions to get into shape. Maybe one or two a week for 3 weeks.
