If you're at the appropriate quantity and quality levels of miles and intensity already, I think plyo's are a very important.
On top of the website suggested, you can do a Pubmed search or a search in the Journal of Strength and Condition to read what some research has show. It's interesting how much of a benefit plyo's and drills potentially can be.
I have the people I coach do them and they're mile-5k, and also do them myself now even though I'm doing a marathon and most people don't associate marathon training w/ plyo's (at least I didn't initially). A major drawback is the injury risk while running high miles each week and adding in plyo's. To hopefully avoid that I try to cycle phases of plyo's like normal training methods.
I did plyos and drills as a kid growing up in Europe and I had a lengthly career, injury free. Those drills made me mechanicaly sound and efficient and I believe the sooner you start, the better!
