I an Cornell Track '91 nf Byram HIlls Track '87. Looking at your biases..where are you from? I suspect you might be the same. I met MAx last year in the late fall and he seemed like a great kid. I never met Phil. I know lots of Ivy schools are kicking themselves for not recruting him as he developed in to the National Class steeplechase only in his Senior year whe acceptances were already out.
Even though COrnell is my school and team...I'll still be pulling for Phil at Heps...I look forward to meeting him as well.
For the Women, Princeton looks absolutely fabulous. They are just so DEEP. They have 3 or 4 freshmen who are state champs, plus they still have most of their young team returning from last year, faster and stronger than before.
Princeton didn't run Jolee VanLeuven or Reilly Kiernan this past week-end (from looking at the restults), but rest of the team ran well and junior Megan Brandeland had a great day. If all goes well for them, by next fall they could finish in the top 5 at Nationals. But this year I am expecting them to pound people. No one can beat a healthy, Lindsay Donaldson at Heps, but the Tigers could grab places 2 through 8 and I wouldn't be surprised.
Cornell also looked good in their first race against Army.
Last year's pictures of the Army-Cornell dual meet were posted on Trackshark--not sure if they're still there. Trackshark will be temporarily down for the entire fall. Here's one:

I'm not sure why it says 2007 when the race was in 2006, but that's the way it was listed.

Scherf?
Not a lock, but if she runs she can beat Donaldson at Heps.
I'm hoping she will run, she deserves a senior campaign at Harvard.
look I'm as big a fan of Penn as any (I go there) but to say that Fordham is an indicator of Penn winning Heps is, to say bluntly, retarded. Fordham doesn't indicate anything, Princeton was clearly tempoing it as many of the Penn guys were. Princeton is clearly the HEAVY favorite.
how is Mark Amirault doing?
Yes, I'm a huge Lindsey Scherf fan. There has been no definite word though that she's on the team, just lots of rumors. She is still not listed on Harvard's roster. I'd love to see her back. It would be great to see Lindsey/Lindsay, from rival schools, battling head to head.
. . . and then most of Princeton's team following right behind them.
And Cornell's women's team coming in second.
she just ran the new haven 20k champs this weekend.
Interview with Lindsey Scherf
Posted on September 4, 2007, Interview conducted September 3, 2007
By Madeleine Marecki
The name "Lindsey Scherf" has been circulating in running circles for what seems to be forever. Yet, Scherf is only 20 years old. Her youth, however, belies an experienced competitor within. The senior at Harvard University is one of the best collegiate athletes in the country, earning multiple All-America and All-Ivy League selections. Scherf's name is already in the record books for breaking several national age-group marks, including the U.S. junior 10,000m record, which she broke when she ran 32:51 at the 2005 Outdoor Heptagonal Championships. The Scarsdale, New York native also has a 15:42 5,000 meter performance to her credit.
Scherf toed the line at the 2007 USA 20k Championships in New Haven, Connecticut on September 3. While her performance was not to her satisfaction, she was all smiles when discussing the positives she took from the experience. Scherf also shared her thoughts on the semester she spent abroad in Australia and her running goals for the upcoming year.
How did the race go for you?
For every race I do, I try to give 100% of what I have. Today, for whatever reason, my legs didn't have all that much, but I still work with what I have and give my all. I still feel I'm fit, but I just moved into my new place a day ago and a couple of transition things can kind of take the spring out of your legs. Regardless, I love getting out here, competing, [I like] the energy of road race and competition. It was a good experience, you know? You have to see what positives you take from it. It was a good effort and it will be getting me to where I want to be come November and as the season progresses.
So you'll be running for Harvard?
Yes, I will be running for Harvard in the fall.
I read that you ran a marathon.
I did when I was in Australia. I ran a marathon for fun. I was studying a semester abroad out there. It was kind of a time where I was being a little experimental and doing a lot of firsts. I backed off the training and I was running a little bit more leisurely. Sometimes it's good to step back and refresh your perspective and I figured, 'Hey, I might as well give it a go.' I had nothing to lose and I had no expectations and I wanted to see if I could roll with the marathon. And I totally loved the distance.
So you popped a 2:41 and that qualified you for the Olympic Trials. Did you have that goal in mind, or did you just run the marathon for fun?
It was for fun but with little benchmarks. I knew that [2:47] or better would get me into the Trials, so I had that in the back of my mind, so I was going to cruise and try to be under that pace. I was a good bit under that pace and I felt good and I just went with it.
What was your training going into that? What was your mileage?
I don't really know. I just kind of went out and most days I would run about 60 to 70 minutes a day. I know definitely there were some things I lacked experience-wise in the marathon. Just going out and running every day for fun, I didn't have a good sense of pace. I realized you have to practice things like taking in water. I learned that. I think popping in that marathon in that low-key setting and experimenting with what's what, I know what I need to work on and improve upon. And it's exciting. The little things that don't come up in the 10k can take minutes off of a marathon. It's so exciting; it's not just about refining your training but also refining your technique, being smart and playing with it.
Are you excited for cross country and the collegiate season?
I'm very excited. I love the opportunity to have a team and camaraderie, as well as having that setting with competitions to challenge yourself and push yourself to new limits.

May see this or something similar this weekend at H-Y-P.
Perhaps that will be Scherf debut?
What great news! I can't wait.
Lindsey Scherf is a great talent and I've loved following her career and with all the junk out there about what's been happening to her--it's very frustrating for us fans. It's good to hear out of her own mouth what her plans are. I am very happy for her that her running career seems to be right on track. It will be great this Saturday in Princeton, and it will be a super Heps (individually) this year. Both Linds-eys/ays could break Caroline Bierbaum's Heps record.
Cornell women 7th at Paul Short. Princeton crushes the tough field. Big Red beat Harvard and Penn, edge #28 Tennessee, but are beaten soundly by (among others) Syracuse--trying to remember the last time that happened...

Cornell men, running close to their full team, 11th at Notre Dame, 2 points behind 9th-place Liberty--ND wins. On the traditionally-fast course, three guys at 24:45 (Wyner continuing to progress from his summer injury) or better, and all seven at/under 25:30. No other Ivy teams in the field.

Of course they'll have to get past Liz & Christie first!

Hmm, neither Scherf nor Donaldson ran Paul Short. Scherf seems to be not quite 100%, Princeton did put a few in front of her at HYP a few weeks ago, Donaldson was beaten by Costello.
Hopefully all will be healthy and running well at Heps, but I think JoeCollege's comment about the Linds(e,a)y's being most likely to break Bierbaum's record in that race is most accurate, regardless of what you think about Paul Short.

We shall see but the two Tigers have the form right now.
