Here is the situation...
I'm a former college runner, 3:52 1500m, but have only run on a very occasional basis for the past 5 years. Right now I would probably run a 5k in about 20-21 minutes. I've started training on a regular basis with a goal of running a marathon in sub 3:00... very reasonable i'd say with a year of regular training... but I don't see myself going much faster than that. My girlfriend's brother (very pretentious) claims to have run 2:40 at boston unregistered, which I find to be highly unlikely based on the fact he weighs 260 lbs and doesn't run very often. He also will never run another race again because he's busy with med school. I told her that its a complete joke that he claims he ran that fast this year, but she still believes him (since she has no clue about running). She says I dont have to feel bad and that i'm too competitive if when I run a marathon, it bothers me if I'm a lot slower than her brother - and shouldn't since he is such a great athlete. The whole situation is annoying. Any advice?
