Had the weather in NE been unseasonably hot all spring, thus enabling some acclimatization, or was Patriot's Day a seasonal fluke? Did my man Fultzy ever comment on how he handled it?

"By the time of the start, the temperature in Hopkinton had reached a record 96 degrees. The heat shimmered off the pavement, which appeared wet like a desert mirage. Hydrants had been opened around Hopkinton and many of the runners soaked themselves, trying to stay cool.
I splashed myself, too, and then hid in the shade, still confident that I could achieve my goal of qualifying for the Trials. Totally at peace with myself, I gave little thought to my opponents, and when I did, I hoped that they, too, would have good, fast races..."
No. It hadn't been unseasonably hot until maybe three days before and it was normal again a few days afterward. I'm not going to swear to the three day thing, but it was only that hot for a short time.
Right, not long enough to acclimate.

But then, is it ever?
I recall a few years back, three days before one of the hottest Bostons on record, going to Fenway on Friday night and wearing every piece of clothing I had - tights under jeans under windpants, 4-5 layers on top, winter cap - and still freezing my buns off by the 7th inning. Three days later the runners were melting under high 80 temps. Ah, New England weather - if you don't like it, wait a couple hours.
The Williams group cut their long run short the week before because of a snowstorm.
