I swear I see something happening in Lee's Summit every month on the news or in the paper. Very peculiar.
Lee's Summit is not a separate, stand alone town/city; it is its own city, but a suburb of Kansas City....part of one, big suburban sprawl. One of the older suburbs.
also, the longtime home of 53 year old top-ranked Masters distance runner, Charlie Gray.
I would add Brad Hawthorne to the list, from Lee's Summit. He was one of the top preps in the early 80s, had a solid career at MU then was a decent road runnner, running a 2:13 marathon, if I recall correctly.
Pretty accurate (Brad was awesome) but he graduated in '74 from hs. Other very good distance runners from LS - Jason Gauert, Amy Wiseman and most recently Jacob Boone (at Ok U now) Ones that did not grow up there, but live there now are Gray, Curp, Bob Busby, and Charlie Gruber.
he was pretty good too wrote:
