he has been postulated that they make around $150,000 when all things are accounted for. but we really just don't know.
speaking on Hall at least, his original base contract with Asics I remember hearing was around 60,000 or something. But with his record-setting year at Houston and London, his income is well into six figures, I'm sure.
I dont know about Dathan.
dathan had better start puttin' out or uncle phil will not be happy and will cut back on his allowance.
if this is true - let that be a lesson to all you runner kids to make sure and do well at school as well as your running...shoot for your dreams, but man, 150K for two of the top 10 or even top 5 runners in the u.s. ???as you older you'll see how frequent a salary like that is in the business world

you don't need to be old. those figures are published all over in all kinds of media. no matter. it's the business folks whose salaries are out of step, not the likes of ritz who make a pretty penny for pursuing athletics.
so what they are published... it still doesn't change the fact that when you are in high school and college, 150k seems big - at least it did to me
and how are business folks salaries out of line??
they produce products which sell - completely market driven
same with runners
besides i wasn't making a judgement on who deserves what, money isn't everything but kids should keep up their dreams and work towards them (if they involve running) but realize how rare it is even to make a decent salary as a runner

SI said that when he turned Pro, he signed a 5 year 1 million dollar contract. If Webb's base is 250K, then Ritz at 200K sounds right. It's a drop in the bucket for a company like Nike.
Ritz got close to running $200,000 for running NYC last year in his debut. Plus his Nike endorsement contract of probably around the same amount, appearance fees every time he runs a race (say $5000+) and he definitely is making some bank. More than kids his age. Not the same as a banker.

I cannot believe that for a second. 20,000 maybe, but 200K is too high a percentage of the appearance fee budget for a debut marathoner.
i agree which is why i said even before you posted"money isn't everything but kids should keep up their dreams and work towards them (if they involve running) but realize how rare it is even to make a decent salary as a runner"in the end money isn't everything but i don't think it is nothing eitherwhen i was in university, my girlfriend's dad who was poor as a kid but made a ton of money as an adult, used to have a phrase that he would tell me'money certainly doesn't mean you'll be happy, but it makes it a lot easier'i think that is spot on

I believe Wejo reported on this site that it was at least 6 figures....he can correct me if I'm wrong.
In any event, those guys make more than you might think. In addition to their contracts, they get appearance fees at nearly every race, plus they get paid when they place and win. Take Ritz's Healthy Kidney 10K for instance - with the win and course record, he made a decent chunk of change that day.
27:34, 13:16, 8:11...
he earned his paycheck and then some
damn people love to bash ritz
like any entertainer he and other runners have to pay support staff. mgrs, agents, lawyers, trainers, flunky #4, etc. plus with 10 years OR SO of earning power for the best it's not the life path for these guys. they have to set themselves up for the 40-50 years after running. you can not expect the sponsor to fold every runner into their corporate structure when thay stop being earners. how many sales reps can they have on the payroll?
