I had once run in a 5k race where the race shirt was a happy beaver in running shoes plastered across the front.
I nearly PRed in the race. I guess the lesson is always run in races where a beaver is gracing the front of the shirt.
I'm 36 now but back in high school, used to go down to Daytona Beach with a bunch of pals for Spring Break and they have a 4 mile race on Easter Sunday straight down the beach ending under the peer. I know they still have the race but back in the day, the front of the shirts had a bunch of running rabbits and on the back it had the same thing but it was the back of the rabbits
I didn't have it, but a guy I ran with showed up with it one day. It was from a half marathon in South Carolina, and it would not pass muster in this PC world. The race was put on by the Springmaid textile mill, and the design was from one of their old ads for bedsheets. There was a young American Indian brave lying on a hammock made out of a sheet. He had a really contented look on his face. Nearby was a young American Indian maiden making some final adjustments on her clothes. The tagline was 'Another buck well spent on a Springmaid sheet.'
I had heard a few stories about that t-shirt, but I never believed them until I actually saw the shirt.
I like any shirt made from a breathable, non-cotton fabric that is suitable for running. The cotton Beefy-Tees are bullshit.
I love when all of the 40-lb over-weight guys are sporting the race t-shirt during the race.
And the number is pinned to the back of the shirt.
OK cowboy....
not 'road race' but:
"USA Munich Trials 1972 Eugene, Oregon"
Go Pre
Drake Relays
Texas Relays
Kansas Relays
this was an era when they had large, bold lettering that you could clearly read on the shirts; not like these small, patch-like logos that are smaller print , hard to read and mixed in with sponsor logos.
no...thats just ur eyes
My favorite race t-shirt is the one that they don't give out, and thus have a cheaper entry. Too bad that not many races go that route

In Tulsa, they used to have the Schlotzsky's St. Patrick's Day 5K. On one of the long sleeves they had shamrocks and the previous year's winner's names/times (~fast times because of the money). On the front it had these running sandwiches with the saying "Run your buns off!" The back of the t-shirt had all these beer, food, and bank sponsors. Cool race overall... wish they still had it.
I have a thin cotton t-shirt from the '72 Olympics that says "USA Olympiad XX"... my dad got it from being a coach on the US Olympic Development Team for basketball.
I like any shirt from a race i do well in heh.
The one i like specifically just for the design is the Leesburg VA 10/20k which is coming up incidentally. Apparently a cow wandered onto the course the first year so now the theme of the race is Run with the Cows and the shirts all have various cows on them.
Also there were two years of zoo zoom shirts like the other guy described with the rabbits- like the front of zebras on the front and back of zebras on the back.

"Best Dam Race in the State" Back of race shirt for local race ran by a dam site.
Well this isn't a road race, but at a high school invitational at Dickinson College, they sold shirts that said "Go Hard Big Dick" on the back.
"It's flat, and it's fast!"
A good description of me at the time. (a female)
I forgot to mention shirts I have seen from the Tupelo Marathon. I believe it has a picture of a skull and crossbones on the front of it and the shirt is in all black. Pretty edgy looking for a race shirt.
shut up and run road race in bryn mawr, pa
Not a race shirt, but I was at Vanny once and saw some Fordam girls warming up. Their t-shirts said:
FUXC. I did a double take everytime I saw them.
