Nothing new from Accelerade, they're just dumping tons of money into advertising for their drink on TV and in many sports-related magazines. Their drink has been around for years, but with the advent of bringing the "amazing, AWE inspiring" DEAN KARNAZES!!! [sarcasm], i guess they felt they needed to go big with their drink. Yes, they claim 29% improvement, no that's probably not going to happen.
Accelerade, Accel Gel, and their other products hinge simply (and our touted aggressively) on the inclusion of protien at 1:4 ratio with Carbohydrates. In doing so, Accel hopes to counter the negative effects of of when your body catabolizes its muscles (eats at them for fuel). The protein helps support your muscles when your body runs out of glycogen and other fuel sources down the road.
So, is the apparent benefit really going to do anything for the average athlete, let alone average person? Probably not. It takes a while for your body to get to a place where its really supporting itself off your muscles. If your doing some intense aerobic work and you want to try it as something to replace the fueling source you should be using already anyways, it wouldn't hurt. For most people, though, they aren't doing enough to need or get much benefit out of it.
