shouldn't he be in there somewhere?
also on a different note, what ever happened to kevin hicks?

read the rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He has not run enough IAAF sanctioned races.
Others say it is an IAAF plot against Webb.
I think it is most likely he has not run the right races to accumulate points.
It is funny that the world's fastest miler is not ranked. He could be the first World Championship gold medalist in the 1500 not to have a world ranking. It will be another first in Webb's odd career. He simply has to be the favorite to win the World Championships. Who else is there?
Besides, all the great milers are ageing. Even if his tactic are flawed his speed is simply extraordinary. Actually, his tactic now fit his new running style. He is a prefontaine type runner that goes fast the whole way.
I can't wait for the World Championships. They are only a month away.
In his dark days at Michigan who would have predicted a 3:46 this summer. Even Steve Scott thought he was washed up back then.
because no one cares about the mile
he's on the World Athletics Tour Standings for the 1500 in 11th place.

Read the Rankings Rules. It's real simple, Webb has only run three 1500s in the last 12 months. He needs six races, of which four of them have to be 1500s to be ranked.
1500 m
3:39.33 1h2 NC Indianapolis IN 22 Jun
3:34.82 1 NC Indianapolis IN 24 Jun
3:30.54 PB (1) 1 Gaz Saint-Denis 6 Jul
One Mile
3:59.34i 1 Father Diamond Fairfax VA 6 Jan
3:56.70i 1 NBG New York NY 20 Jan
3:55.18i PB (3) 1 BIG Boston MA 27 Jan
4:04.86i 4 Millrose New York NY 2 Feb
4:01.07i 1 NC Boston MA 25 Feb
3:57.83 1 Furman Inv Greenville SC 7 Apr
3:51.71 1 DrakeR Des Moines IA 28 Apr
3:52.94 1 Reebok New York NY 2 Jun
3:46.91 AR PB (1) 1 Flanders Brasschaat 21 Ju
Scoring
3:39.33(C) 1116 + 0 = 1116
3:34.85(C) 1177 + 60 = 1237
3:30.54(GL) 1237 + 170 = 1407
3:51.71(D) 1180 + 40 = 1220
3:46.91(E or F) 1242 + 25 = 1267
----------
For those of you scoring at home, if Webb goes out and runs a 3:39 1500 in a minor meet his score will move him into 18th place.
6247 (5 races) + 1100 = 7347 = 1224.5
If he runs a 3:33 (without place points) he'd have a 1241 avg, good enough for 15th place. The key for Webb is to get that 3:39 out of his top 4 and replace it with another 1400 point score -- then he jumps right into the top 10.
By the time he jumps there, most of the other guys will run sub 3.30

and that mean what?
thanks for yalls help. I guess the question then is should the IAAF somehow change their ranking rules. It seems odd that someone like webb who has run plenty of races in the past 12 months should not be on the list just because of technicalities. I mean, a guy could run WR times in the 1500, mile, 2k and not be ranked in the world.
You know, they do count miles, too. The category reads "1500m (Mile-2000m)".

Depends on what list you want to look at. He's on top of the performance list for the 1500:
http://www.iaaf.org/statistics/toplists/inout=O/ageGroup=N/season=2007/gender=M/discipline=1500/legal=A/index.htmlIf you read the rules about the rankings, they are obviously intended to rate strong CONSISTENT performance at a certain distance, not one or two big showings in a variety of distances.

Duh.
You need 6 races over 12 months to be ranked.
4 of those six races must be 1500m.
There are plots and conspiracies everywhere. Neptune the river god plagues me with his rain.

what guys are going to do that?
komen, baala, lagat, and ramzi are the only ones with PRs under 3:30.
komen will probably do it, baala and lagat past their prime and won't, and ramzi hasn't raced (i can only hope he's being made to sit out due to his PED use).
so "most of the other guys" amounts to komen. cool.
koech will run under 3.30 aswell
If we go ahead and use his 6 best scoring runs (4 miles and 2 1500s) then he would be at about 1250 which would put him around #14 on the list.
Besides not being eligible due to not enough 1500s, what is hurting him is running in only 1 Golden League or Super GP event. Without those, he doesn't get the bonus points for beating top competition which is required to get the big points.
For example, Augustine Kiprono is presently #1 at 1356 which is greater than all of Webb's runs other than the Paris GL (1407). And 4 of his 6 scoring runs are from Golden League or the World Athletics final with the other 2 still being category A and B. Other than Paris Webb currently has nothing greather than a C.

That is just reflective of the impossible pressure he's been under from an intolerant fan base. Because of his 3:53, people, even runners who should know better, instantly expected a string of NCAA championships, PRs every season and the perfect picture of the rise of U.S. middle distance dominance.
Then, when Webb struggled with that pressure (what would you do when you knew you had crazy potential to be world class and your college career was holding you back?) and had the courage to perserve through years of other people's expectation and injuries and settles into his form, people are surprised????
It is frightening how intolerant people are, ESPECIALLY runners who personally know how difficult it is to be the best. U.S. sports fans are pretty stupid, we don't care about the person, we only care about the win...what a great philosophy to teach our kids, your kids--you don't mean anything unless you win...and lord know WE ALL can win, right? What a fine goal to set for one another. Never mind appreciation of the struggles involved along the way that give wisdom and provide human drama. Nah, we've even become lazy as fans--win or you are crap.
I have even read where Webb's times mean nothing if he doesn't win in the WC or in Beijing...jezus krist, again with the stupid expectations...how about supporting a good runner and appreciating the difficulty required to be at the top, a feat very few have ever accomplished, much less a bunch of present and former runners who have their own experiences with set backs.
Steve Scott should know better. legendary U.S. runner. How many championship and olympic races did he win or medal in as American's top runner with times near the top of the world?
who here doesn't understand--in running, you have to believe? you fools failed to believe in Webb. What would it have cost you to keep the faith? perhaps it would have cost you less pessimism and critical bitching.
