For Heaven’s sake, Yanks - ease up - or your combined weight may tilt the earth, displacing the polar axis.

No - with the recent arrival of Posh Spice in LA, the balance should be restored...for now.
I was laughing at the fact that 75% will be overweight or obese. But just calculated my BMI and was shocked: 6 months ago I was 5'4" and 142lbs. BMI = 24.4. Overweight is 25 or greater. Damn, I was almost part of the problem!
Now I am 132lbs. and presumably still 5'4". BMI=22.7
No one would say I was overweight before.
The lower range of Normal is BMI=18. To go that low, I'd have to drop to 110lbs. Not happening!
BMI is a load of crap though. Get some fat C\calipers to really determine if you are overweight. Or look at your stomach. If your stomach covers the bottom on your jeans then you better start monitoring your diet. I know guys that have 15% body fat, which is not considered fat by any means but if you lift up their shirt....they're fat......Not only is this 75% a disgusting number, but the fact that I believe the qualifications for being fat are too nice (meaning there are more fat people than they say there are).
side note: I know I'm preaching to the choir....
side note: I know slightly chubby kids that can go sub 16 in the 5K...if thats the case...then rock on fatty!
I am 50 and weigh exactly what I weighed in college (6'/160#, very low body fat). I have watched the entire society get fatter and fatter over the intervening 30 years. People who haven't seen me in a while always ask if I lost weight. Guess what: no...you just got fatter!
"If people keep gaining weight at the current rate, fat will be the norm by 2015"
Umm, if 2/3 of us are currently considered overweight or obese, then fat IS the norm already. And I didn't need a scientific study to tell me that. A stroll down the hall at work will confirm it.
Skin calipers can't measure visceral fat. Think of the beer bellies you see on tailgaters at football games.
