Im not a guy that views this thread most of the year, but when the Tour starts i do all my runs in the morning, and then watch the Tour...And then discuss it on letsrun...And this year, It seems that very few are watching.

Wait until the tour hits the Alps this weekend and the "real" tour begins.

doesn't mix with this american runner.
there's good discussion in the "Tour de France 2007" thread.
there are some trolls who do nothing but throw around doping allegations, but there are some people in there who really know their stuff and provide excellent insight.

I just got back from France and I'd trade the whole country for a clean toilet.
We only care when an American is leading.
I'd watch if Dean Karnazes were running the entire thing.

Why do American kiddies hate France so much?
Do they teach you to do it at school?
It seems a lot of indoctrination goes on in the American education system. The USA is so self-concious as a nation that they feel the need to unfairly belittle other countries constantly.
I really started really following the Tour back in 2003, right around the time I got into cycling. In 2005, I watched every stage on OLN coverage and sacrificed some beauty sleep to do it. Last year, 3 months after I DirecTV, I re-ordered it just so I could watch the Tour.
Last year was awesome for me since the coverage provided information to which I could really relate. I started training on my bike with a power meter, and knew what 200 watts, 300 watts, 400 watts felt like. When Floyd was blasting up beyond category climbs at 400 watts for a 1/2 hour, my jaw dropped. I was riding at the top of the amateur levels in cycling and could only manage Floyd's 70 min time trail intensity for 2 minutes.
This year, I really don't give a f***. I'm tired of being super-impressed by the feats these guys pull off, then having to question all of it a couple weeks after the Tour. I'm following the news updates and stage winners on the internet, but not investing any of my (worthless) time in these guys.
You actually thought this was a positive place?

Who said the belittle-ing was unfair?
france smells like piss i was there last week . Metro works good but station have those horrible little pay toilets.
The USA is a country known as the land of the free, freedom of press, freedom of religion, freedom to choose political leaders. The government is based on checks and balances, opposing political parties and view points. Yet, when a small European country opposes our unjust war, we cannot stand it.
i dont get why people have such a problem with france. i back packed europe last month and paris was my favorite place along the route. its really an amazing place and i didnt see much if any evidence of the typical stereotypes.
