I have no problems with Webb's screams or Mottram's comments, but I'll have to agree with you on this one.
I thought that odd as well. Maybe he's allergic? Did the same thing at US Nats with the flag girl too, though. I understand being in the zone and all, but geez.

Athlete's rarely take the flowers too qucikly. Give the guy a break. Bunch of idiots.
haha I thought it was funny how she keeps trying to hand them to him and he keeps not taking them. He won the race, he can deny the flowers if he so chooses, right?

Allergic to flags as well as flowers? That's a first.

That's some nasty polyester, lemme tell ya.
I think he completely blacked out and was in a bit of shock. It still looked bad, though.
This may be a stretch, but maybe, just maybe he was a bit winded from just running 3:30.xx. And 3 steps and a flex past the finish was just too soon to be acosted by the little flower girl, lol...Maybe he would have taken the U.S. and Japan Flags more promptly if they would have had a Nike swoosh on it?
I also noticed that he didn't take the flowers.
How stupid are the flowers???? Honestly.
It happens all the time in T&F, but it is VERY lame.
Have you ever seen Ladamnian Tomlinson take a bouquet of flowers after a touchdown? Or Shaq taking a bouquet after a monster dunk??? Or Beckett after he scores a goal? NO! And, you never will.
Why should Alan Webb take a bouquet after he figuratively dunked on the world of milers?
Go Webb. Don’t take the flowers!!
Totally agree. I wouldn't take the flowers either. I would spike them on the track. Or I would hand them over to the second place finisher. Seriously, did Webb just finish a ballet or a 1500m?
Why can't someone hand him a glass of water or a towel?
I like the flowers, there's something elegant about giving flowers to the winner of a race. it's kind of like the olive branch wreath used at the olympics
I agree marijuologist. You are becoming less predictable. Congrats.

I agree...I haven't seen runners get a towel or a bottle of Gatorade after a race...you see it in baseball (the home run derby usually) but thats it.....If I just ran the 3rd fastest 1500 in american history, I would much rather have something to hydrate myself then some flowers that you would normally give your mom or girlfriend.

If Gatorade were to sponsor a track meet you might see the winner get something to drink.

Whew, good find. I was afraid for a second because now that Webb is winning big races, we were running out of things to rip him about. But you're right, he didn't take the flowers right away! He celebrated instead! The nerve of this guy! Somebody tell him if he wanted to show emotion he chose the wrong sport.
well lets see....its a tradition and has been for a very long time for the winner to get flowers at the end of the race...you don't see too many other athletes ignoring the flower girl, they simply take the flowers and if they don't want them they throw them to the crowd. I can understand that webb may have been in shock about his time, but he seems to have a habit of making himself look bad at the wrong times

Totally. Alan needs to stay focused, and flowers are only going to get in the way. There is no time for flowers at the end of a race. Forget celebration or tradition. Get some Cytomax out there on the track. The kid just got done running for three and a half minutes in cool weather, for God's sakes.
THEY DID give him a water bottle after the race! watch the freakin video
