That is a low blow, and really just not needed, it was a simple mistake, and while at fault it is a terrible situation that need not be brought up again.
On a side note, are any of the other early 1980's races online, im really interested in seeing the 1983 race, but 1984 would suffice as well
What is the name of the running store in Greenville, SC??

Jeff Milliman owns a running store here in Greenville SC. Great to see what he did all those years ago.
This was actually one of the more controversial NCAA meets as if you noticed at the start the field is divided onto two sides of a creek. Teams who started on the left of the creek swore after the race that they were at a significant disadvantage as they had to run about 50 yds further then the teams on the right. If you watch the beginning of this video you can see that the teams on the left are caught behind the teams on the right. I wonder if North Central started on the left. Although they had the individual champion, I think they finished 8th as a team which was one of their lower finishes.
Maybe we should have a re-run.
I love the porn music on the intro...sweet
QUACK!
so retro.
p.s. if that announcer mentions 120 miles a week one more time i might hurt him.
Here are the results.
Run In
Hey could you please post more races that don't even matter? I'm really digging this D3 joke.
haha that was awesome. i really enjoyed that video.
What area of Rochester, NY is that Durand Eastman Park?
Mr. Supporting both is still working to crack 20:00 for 5K. Just thought I'd toss that in so you'll know where he's coming from (i.e., sour grapes).
Here is something interesting on Jeff Milliman from a marathon I ran in April 1981. I have the article in front of me about when Jeff Milliman ran the Lake County Marathon in Illinois as an unregistered runner and was disqaulified although he was the first runner to finish. He decided to run the race the night before with teammate Dan Skarda. Dan dropped out at 13 miles and Jeff intended to drop out at 20 miles but kept going because he felt good. From 13 miles on when Jeff took the lead the race director had to figure out what to do if Jeff won. They allowed him in the finishing chute but disqualified him. The paper said there were 1051 official runners and almost 200 unregistered runners (wow!) and if they allowed him to be recognized they'd have to recognize the other runners too. Jeff finished in 2:22:59. The official winner Ray Hinz finished 30 seconds behind.
any other videos?
I think banditing was much more common back then, and people were also more casual about jumping into a marathon.
I once did a 10k where the first 7 or 8 were bandits just out there for a workout. It was pretty funny at the time, but I'm sure some stuffed shirt here will come on and give some sort of lecture.
Saw Steve Scott run the 1st 20 or so of the Drake Marathon back in 1979 or 80--he kept a good pace, well under 5:20--and I don't think he was registered.
Anyone know where I can get video or photos of D3 nationals (CC and track) 1987-1988??
Is Durand Eastman now Cobbs Hill?
Nah, Cobbs Hill is closer to downtown, Durand is up by the lake. Nice area, ran a few very relaxed long runs up there. I don't know exactly where the course is in the park, but it is a nice place for a race.
