"why are you trying to insure your life if you don't have a wife and kid(s)?
Once you are married, you may want to insure your life for the cost of say your mortgage if you have a mortgage outstanding to protect your wife from having to move. She should be able to get a job and take care of herself from there.
When you have kids, get term life to protect your kids future. But I wouldn't waste your money on life insurance until you are at the very least married."
One very good reason to get some amount of insurance now is you don't know what your health will look like come marriage time. You might be uninsurable. Anything can happen, accident, illness, deteriorated medical history. However at age 22 term life insurance is dirt cheap. Get a modest amount, say no more than $100,000 but make sure you also get a Guaranteed Insurability Clause (GIB) for say $200,000 that will let you buy more insurance in the future with no medical questions asked. Also make sure the policy you buy is "convertible" so you can switch it to a permanent policy down the road. I'd say a 10 year term with a GIB for $200k will cost you no more than $18-23/month. And if you die tomorrow you can make your parents the beneficiaries so someone can afford to bury your carcass.
The cemetaries are littered with dads who got sick and couldn't get insurance and left the wife and kids high and dry. For the cost of a few Starbucks a month you can have that problem covered.
