Andy Roddick was knocked out today by an unseeded player. With Webb and Lagat performing well and new talent in the wings the US maybe better at mile running than at Tennis. There are now more Americans ranked in the top fifty in the 1500/mile than there are in tennis.
Blame Football for taking away resources from NCAA tennis players.
Webb certainly had a better day than Roddick.

I wouldn't blame football entirely for the decline of US international sports. However, it does not help. We Europeans actually love football because it makes America less competitive in other sports. So yanks keep bashing away on the football pitch.

Calling Gasquet unseeded is stupid considering he's ranked 14'th in the ATP Rankings and was seeded 12'th in the tourney. Roddick has won majors before, been to finals before etc. US Tennis is not in great shape. No one can play on clay, and there's very little depth. Blake is decent, but hasn't broken through in a major. The rest are pretty lousy except for Roddick. Also, don't forget a lot of tennis players that are going to be studs enroll in tennis academies a la Maria Sharapova and don't bother going through with NCAA tennis. We've just had a talent drought since Sampras, T. Martin, Agassi, Chang etc. Roddick's been the only prodigy recently.

he was knocked out by 12th seeded Gasquet who isnt some chump. As of today yes Webb is doing better, but overall Roddick is still better.
BTW Webb is my favorite miler, and roddick one of my least favorite tennis players so im not biased, its just the truth
Webb is the fastest 1500 meter runner in 2007. You can't say Roddick is the best tennis player in 2007.
