Injury concerns diminish Dibaba’s world record ambitions
2 July 2007- Ethiopia’s reigning world 5000m champion Tirunesh Dibaba’s hopes of attempting the world 5000m record in the 2007 Gaz de France IAAF Golden League
Meeting in Paris this Friday have been put back following the recurrence of a leg injury.
21-year old Dibaba, who has run only once in this year’s outdoor track season, has not competed since registering a time of 14:35.67 at the 2007 Reebok Grand Prix in New York, USA on June 2nd.
“The injury started after New York,” Dibaba said. “I have been receiving treatment for it, but I have not been able to train as well as I liked.”
Dibaba had planned an attempt on Meseret Defar’s record time of 14:16.63 in Paris this Friday, but says that winning is now her only priority after her persistent injury problems. “It is difficult to think about records if you’re not fully fit,” she says. “For the moment, my only priority in Paris is victory.”
