I was on my run tonight on our local trail, which is at most points wide enough for 3-4 people to stand shoulder to shoulder.
I came upon a group of 5-6 punk kids walking towards me. Looked like your typical slacker, skater pieces of shit, 16 years old probably.
I was hauling ass (for me) going around 6 minute pace or slightly under, just enjoying a nice hour run, enjoying the evening.
The trail where we met was wide enough for us to comfortably pass if we went single file. Well, when we are about 70 meters away from each other, the punk ringleader starts running in place like a monkey, in mockery. The others burst out laughing at his display.
As I approach, the ringleader steps directly in my path, and stares at me with a real tough guy look.
I am 29, 6-2, and 180 lbs. I also have a very low tolerance for punk kids. (I don't mean kids who like punk rock, I mean piece of shit kids with bad attitudes).
Without slowing down at all, I braced myself, lowered my shoulder, and leveled the kid flat on his back. He ended up sprawled out in a cloud of dust to the side of the trail. I didn't stop at all, and just kept on my way without saying a word. Of course I was trailed by a chorus of profanity, but they weren't gonna catch me and they weren't physically imposing.
It was incredibly satisfying, made more so by the look in his eyes the millisecond before impact- pure surprise and terror. He obviously didn't think that was how his tough guy act was going to end.
Of course I immediately realized it was a dumb move on my part, since I work here in town. But damn, I can't stand kids like these. I think it's partly because I NEVER would have thought to do something like that when I was a kid; that is, obnoxiously confronting an adult, much less a much larger and stronger adult who could kick my ass.
Do these kids think they're protected by society, or empowered to behave like this or what? All I know is I hope he learned his lesson.
I also realized that if this situation ever arises again, to do it on the BACK portion of an out and back run, as tonight.
Anyone else have any similar experiences?
