Taken away training, who do you think is the most talented runner ever? For example, consider everyone did the same exact training, who would come out on top?
I would say Dan Komen

Noah Ngeny reported to have never run more than 50mpw and ran some incredible times over 800-mile his 1km record still stands today This guy was only around for a brief time.
1000 m 2:11.96 Noah Ngeny (KEN) 5 Sep 1999 Rieti
Shannon Butler
mark lewis francis
Jim Ryun
Herbert James Elliott
i dont know about most, but id say its a tie for least talented between Dean K and Wejo
Stupidest dumbest question of all time... most talented runner, not fastest? What is that supposed to mean?
"most talented runner, not fastest? What is that supposed to mean?"
im pretty sure thats the dumbest question of all time. If you have never heard someone say "hes got the talent, but just doesn't want to train" then you've missed alot. for example, if runner A did 20 miles per week and runner B did 70 miles per week and runner B only beat A by a fraction of a second then runner A is obviously more talented. I know people that train the same amount as I do but are twice as fast.
I never gave reasoning for Komen. I picked him because he set world records quite early in his life I believe...I could be wrong though. I was just curious to what you guys thought and wanted to make sure I got it started by adding in a name of my own...
No it's a stupid question, because your ability to train and get more out of yourself is the biggest part of your talent.
Durability and the desire/will to train are part of talent...I know plenty of guys who are naturally fast, but fall apart at high mileage and are beaten by naturally slower guys who win by putting in the miles week after week.
It's silly to limit talent to a narrow scope.

Yea with Daniel Komen it could be the talent or the savage ammounts of EPO. I don't know, one or the other.
I'm sorry but noone runs under 8 minutes and is able to be held up by his friends and jog around laughing. I have never seen a more blatant case of someone on drugs. That's just my opinion though.
MJ at 400m. If you had to build the perfect 400m runner you'd probably start with MJ and then stop. He lost very few races in his life, he was great from a very young age, and he has 25 of the 50 fastest times ever run.
Or you could say Geb for his enormous range. Training will make you faster, but to be competitive from 1500m to the marathon you have to have some incredible natural talent.
Getting into the ultra-world, I think there is general agreement that Yiannis Kouros is not completely human and that his ability to metabolise food is out of this world.
Bannister. He didn't have very much time to train.
Seb Coe for 800-mile
Geb had great range, although personally I think Aouita had better range - I'm more impressed by world class 800-10,000 than 1500-marathon.
Dean Karnazes. If he stopped doing all the over-distance stuff he could develop his foot speed.

aouita admittedly doped though
